Considered by many of their peers, as being one of the Greatest Live Performing Funk/Rock Bands to ever hit a stage! "To experience Rick James & The Stone City Band live was like an adrenaline rush of pure unabashed raw energy."The ORIGINAL STONE CITY BAND is back and ready to Fire Up that Funk. For more than 2 decades this legendary Band has provided the sounds that's been heard on recording by Rick James, MC Hammer, Teena Marie, The Temptations, Eddie Murphy, The Mary Jane Girls, and Smokey Robinson, just to name a few. Their musicial performances can be heard on countless samplings by many of today's HipHop Artists. On any given day you can watch a TV commerical or listen to your Radio and you will hear that distinctive signature sound of Rick James' ORIGINAL STONE CITY BAND, with its pulsating Bass lines and irresistable rhythms. THE STONE CITY BAND, was formed in 1978 by The King of Punk Funk, Rick James. This band served as Rick's exclusive Recording and Touring Band from the beginning and through the height of his career. They were responsible for cranking out the sounds to timeless hits such as "YOU & I," "SUPER FREAK" "MARY JANE" "BUSTIN OUT" "GHETTO LIFE" "FIRE IT UP" "FIRE AND DESIRE" "STANDING ON THE TOP" "ALL NIGHT LONG" "BOYS" "IN MY HOUSE," and many more. They have performed on numerous television shows like The Grammy Awards, American Music Awards, Soul Train Music Awards, Saturday Night Live, Dick Clark's Rockin New Years Eve, and many more. Their recording efforts have produced numerous gold and platinum albums. They also recorded three albums for the Motown Label, "Meet The Stone City Band," "In "N" Out," and "The Boys are Back".In late May of 2004, Levi Ruffin and Billy Nunn had all recieved calls from Rick about the possibility of reuniting the Original Stone City Band for a Reunion Tour and Album. As former band members began talks of a reunion, the excitement about a Rick James/Stone City Band Reunion Tour started taking shape. In early July of 2004, preparations began and dates, scheduling, rehearsal time and locations were in motion. And then on August 6, 2004 the shocking news of Rick's untimely death was heard around the world. Shocked, Stunned, and Devastated were the comments made by the Band upon hearing the news of their mentor's death. After attending Rick's funeral and serving as pall bearers in Buffalo, N.Y., the band completely shut down and went into a long period of mourning. It was apparent that Rick's death took a major toll on them personally and professionally. His death was a true wake up call, it made them take stock of their own mortality and the talent God has blessed them with. It was'nt until April of 2005 that the band started talking to one another again and seriously considering the possibility of reuniting and working together again. A decision was made in May 2005 by the band to move forward and reunite "THE ORIGINAL STONE CITY BAND". The band decided to perform only a few live dates during 2005 while focusing on recording tracks for a new album and rehearsing a show to conicide with a planned world tour beginning the summer of 2007. Dates are now being accepted our "BAD BOYS OF FUNK" tour 2007. Some dates will include our sisters... The MARY JANE GIRLS.This highly anticipated Funk extravaganza will celebrate the life, music, and legacy of their leader, mentor, and friend Rick James.
