About Me
When most people think of the age 13, it’s often associated with maturity, entrance to adulthood, and new beginnings; something Simone Harewood is undoubtedly able to relate to. At that tender age, the youngster was already penning lyrics in an effort to rid herself of frustrated emotions; stemming from her mother’s migration from Barbados to Canada. Only two years later, upon moving to Canada herself, what had started off merely as a hobby evolved into a full fledged passion for Simone. Finally, completely acknowledging her lyrical abilities, she commenced skillfully honing her newly found craft. It was an official introduction to the world of rap and hip-hop. The origination of her name can be attributed to a former boss, who affectionately dubbed her Simme. The end of her last name (Wood) was eventually added by a friend, to create the stylishly edgy, urban compilation Simme Woodz. This multi-talented beauty’s zeal for self-expression has not only fueled her skills as a lyricist, but has also propelled her to fulfill her dream of becoming an actress, as well as rip the run way as a model. To sum her numerous talents up in words is simple, triple threat. In describing her lyrical approach, one would say, she’s managed to fuse a balanced blend of Caribbean/Canadian flavor, topped off with a touch of dirty south flair. Her capability for lyrically entertaining you with witty metaphors and hardcore rhymes; all the while seducing you with her sexual finesse, results in energetic club banger tracks sure to garner appreciation from both females and males alike. Like any true artist, her style is diverse; she can slow it down enough to allow the consciousness of her words to marinate, and in the same breath, pick it up with a speed that will enthrall any listener. The ability to expertly, incorporate life experiences without making her music dark and overbearing, allows audiences to comfortably relate to the Bajan native. Her appreciation for music is further enhanced by a few industry icons, namely Jay-Z for his aptitude as a music mogul as well as his structured business sense. Kanye West and Common have also successfully made an impression, with their grounded conscious messages as well as their entertaining tracks. T.I. and Ludacris for their crunk energy and fast paced flavor, and of course Foxy Brown and Shawna, with their edgy no holds barred flair of rapping. As a female rapper in Toronto, Simme Woodz is faced with more than just a few obstacles; among them, the fact that urban music has very little support, compared to the other genres of music. “Although there is an enormous wealth of talent, she states, many of it is still sadly undiscovered.†Since exposure is limited, this upcoming artist strives to stand out as a contender in the game. The goal is to surpass those who’ve already attempted, and solidify her presence in the industry not just in Toronto but on an International scale. As one who aspires to be a trailblazer, the bar set in place, although attainable, is quite high; but, the 24 year old Capricorn beauty relishes the challenge. This caramel kitten is as powerful in person, as she is to rock to in your MP3 player. You may have seen her grace the stage with her energetic presence at Unleashed at Revival (2004), B.A.P.‘s Entertainment Presents... Honey Matthews: The Legacy Begins (2005), the Metropol (2005), Experience the Vibe (2006). She was also featured on Incradouble Inc. Radio Show. She’s currently in the studio working on her first mix tape, Coming Soon 2007. Expect a release that will be both titillating and captivating to the ear. She also doles out a little advice to aspiring artists. “You’re always your best supporter so believe in yourself, stay focused and grounded. Be flexible enough to conform to change, without losing “you†in the process. Always be true to yourselfâ€.
