About Me

Since 1997, I've been a programming director at The Fantasia Film Festival in Montreal, a very cool event that your life absolutely needs to have in it. Fantasia is the biggest Fantasy / horror Film Festival in North America (surrealistically, over 70 000 people attend each summer) and is one of the largest events of its kind in the world. Check us out on the web at www.fantasiafestival.com 2006 marked our 10th anniversary, and to commemorate this, I worked with the good people at Synapse Films to produce a DVD collection of some of the strongest international shorts that we screened over our first decade of existence. The disc is called SMALL GAUGE TRAUMA (named after one of our regular short film blocks at the fest) and it features mind-blowing, award-winning shorts from Argentina, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Japan, Portugal, Spain and the UK. The disc came out across Canada and the US on July 25 2006 and you can get it at Amazon, HMV, Borders, Archambault and Tower Records among others, but if you have an indie mom & pop shop in your area that stocks it - buy it there instead! The films on this DVD will change your life. If you don't buy it, you're a horrible, horrible person. Volume II streets in July 2008, so keep watching the skies!
When I'm restless or obsessed, I write, and have published articles in various film and culture publications over the years, including Rue Morgue Magazine, Post Script, Eyeball, Flesh & Blood and The Montreal Mirror. I have also written chapters for the books ART OF DARKNESS, FEAR WITHOUT FRONTIERS and TEN YEARS OF TERROR: BRITISH HORROR FILMS OF THE 70's, all published by Britain's FAB PRESS.
Every now and then, I also make underground 16mm films that win awards yet are seen by damn near nobody who lives outside of war-torn countries. As writer/director, I made DIVIDED INTO ZERO back in 1999, and I finally completed my new one, GOD'S LITTLE GIRL (2006), which launched in Paris at Etrange Festival and has since screened at fests in Texas, Switzerland, Boston, Finland, San Francisco, Spain, Toronto and yes, Montreal. It continues to float around the festival circuit, so look for it in your town in the coming months. I also produced Karim Hussain's notorious debut feature SUBCONSCIOUS CRUELTY (2000) and a confrontational, deranged animated short for underground cartoonist Rick Trembles, titled RICK TREMBLES GOOPY SPASMS LIVE CARTOON SHOW (2004). Info on all can be found at my production company's site www.inflictionfilms.com. Be warned, the site is seldom updated. Also, if youre under the age of 18...um, dont go there.
