About Me

Unicorns is a feature film by Leah Meyerhoff currently in pre-production.

A Sundance Lab finalist, UNICORNS tells the story of an awkward teenage girl who escapes to a fantasy world when her first romantic relationship turns increasingly abusive. Writer/Director Leah Meyerhoff is a Slamdance Grand Jury Prize winner and Student Academy Award nominated MFA candidate at NYU. Her short films have screened in over 200 film festivals, won a dozen international awards, and are currently airing on LOGO, MTV, and IFC. Executive produced by Allison Anders (Things Behind the Sun, Gas Food Lodging) and produced by Alexis Fish (Shortbus) and Heather Rae (2008 Sundance winner Frozen River) UNICORNS is scheduled to go into production late this summer.

Bios Leah Meyerhoff
Writer/Director

Leah Meyerhoff is a Student Academy Award nominated filmmaker currently pursuing an MFA at NYU. Her short film TWITCH has screened in over 200 film festivals, including Cannes, Palm Springs, Chicago International, Clermont-Ferrand, Newport, Woodstock and Milan. A Slamdance Grand Jury Prize winner, Twitch has won a dozen international awards and is being distributed by IFC and Skandinavia TV. Leah has since completed several music videos, including TEAM QUEEN, a Planet Out finalist airing on LOGO, and ETERNAL FLAME, which is on MTV Europe. Leah has received press coverage from The New York Times, The Hollywood Reporter, Film Threat, The San Francisco Chronicle and numerous other publications. She is also profiled in the docudrama series Film School which continues to air on IFC. Leah was recently a member of the Slamdance narrative jury and is currently teaching a master class at NYU. Leah holds a BA in Art-Semiotics from Brown University. UNICORNS will be her first feature film.

Allison Anders
Executive Producer

Allison Anders made her directing debut BORDER RADIO, which was nominated for an Independent Spirit Award for Best First Feature. Her second film, GAS FOOD LODGING was nominated for two Independent Spirit Awards, the Berlin Int’l Film Festival Golden Bear, and the Dramatic Grand Jury Prize at the 1992 Sundance Film Festival. Her followup films, MI VIDA LOCA and GRACE OF MY HEART continued to cement her status as a talented and deeply personal filmmaker. Allison also directed a segment of FOUR ROOMS, which was produced by Quentin Tarantino. Next, Allison wrote and directed SUGAR TOWN, and was again nominated for two Independent Spirit Awards. Allison’s most recent film, THINGS BEHIND THE SUN, won a Peabody Award and was nominated for three Indpendent Spirit Awards and an Primetime Emmy. Allison is currently in development on COMFORT, based on a short story by Mary Gaitskill (SECRETARY).

Heather Rae
Producer


Heather Rae has worked for more than twenty years in the film industry. She produced FROZEN RIVER, starring Melissa Leo, Michael O’keefe and Marc Boone Jr, which won the Grand Jury Prize at the 2008 Sundance Film Festival, opened the New York Film Society's New Directors/New Film series and was acquired by Sony Pictures Classics. Rae also produced IBID starring Christian Campbell, which premiered at the 2008 South By Southwest Film Festival, and TRUDELL, which premiered at the 2005 Sundance Film Festival and went on to screen at more than 100 festivals, played theatrically throughout the world and was broadcast on PBS' Independent Lens series and the Sundance Channel. For Six years Rae was a programmer for the Sundance Film Festival and ran the Native Program at the Sundance Institute. After leaving Sundance she went on to work for Winter Films as Senior Vice President of Production. For the past seven years she has worked independently as a producer working on projects such as SAWTOOTH, starring Adam Beach, Gary Farmer and Udo Kier and WATER FLOWING TOGETHER about master ballet dancer Jock Soto. She co-produced BACKROADS, directed by Shirley Cheechoo, which premiered at Sundance in 2000. Rae has served as a consultant or advisor to The Sundance Institute, National Geographic, IFP, The Rockefeller Foundation, ITVS, PBS, Priddy Brothers Entertainment, Bioneers and more. Rae has served as a Juror for the Sundance Film Festival, Taos Talking Pictures and numerous others. She is Cherokee and a mother of three.

Alexis Fish
Producer


Alexis Fish currently works with SAG Indie as Head of Development and Sponsorship traveling worldwide to film festivals educating filmmakers and actors about the SAG low budget contracts. With almost a decade of experience in the independent film community, her last position was as Senior Vice President of Q Television Network, a start-up premium cable channel based in Burbank, CA. In addition to Executive Producing and overseeing 10 originally produced shows at QTN and 9 hours of live programming, Alexis oversaw all marketing, branding, sales, and acquisitions. Notably, Alexis is responsible for financing John Cameron Mitchell’s SHORTBUS and securing the premium cable rights for QTN. Producer of many successful short films, Alexis’ most recent short film, GETTING TO KNOW YOU, has won numerous festival awards and is currently airing on LOGO. Other producing projects include QUATTRO NOZA (Sundance, 2003), HUMMER (Sundance, 2004), and PRETTY THINGS (HBO, 2005). Alexis participated in FIND Producer’s Lab with her feature LIVES OF THE SAINTS in 2004. Alexis holds a BA in Political Science from Smith College.

Judy Henderson

Judy Henderson's feature film credits include L.I.E., which received six Independent Spirit Award Nominations, BEFORE SUNRISE, TWELVE AND HOLDING, SUBURBIA, WALTZING ANNA, DAY ZERO, BLUE MOON, THE POMPATUS OF LOVE, NAKED IN NEW YORK, CHUTNEY POPCORN, DIGITAL REAPER, and THE TROUBLE WITH CALI. She has also cast numerous television shows including Sins Of The City, Babylon Fields, and Love And Betrayal: The Mia Farrow Story. Her Broadway work includes the Tony Nominated Anna Karenina, Salome, Barefoot in the Park, Chinese Coffee, On Borrowed Time, and Search and Destroy. Her Off-Broadway work includes Obie winner Curtains, Abigail's Party, Hurlyburly, The Prime of Miss Jean Brody, East Is East, Forever Plaid, and Amphigory. She is also the company casting director for The New Group.
