The band was born in 2003 with an original line up of nine horns and a three piece rythm section, however due to various habits and excessive tendancies, Hakuna Pesa only survived one eventful year, forty gigs then got the hump with each other!
After about year, the singer got sober and bored. Instead of dealing in stolen shopping trolleys, corrupting children and smoking rocks, MC Msungu wrote a load of new songs in his battered caravan, pulled together the most talented bunch of beatniks he knew and they recorded twenty-three tracks in three days at a mate's garage.
This was more fun than they had expected.
At this stage, organs were lacking. Of course, all of the band member's PHYSICAL organs were present. Their bodily functions were all performing properly. Well, MC Msungu's digestive system seemed pretty active, but this is irrelevant, he contacted his good friend and DJ / producer Don't Panick. Mr Panick was like "Dope. F'reel! I'm on it! Holla! Touch my elbow... etc. etc." He accepted the offer and joined the band playing keyboards.
With the trombone and sax positions filled by the most dedicated members of the original band - Benbone and Gumboi respectively, the boys decided they needed full aural completion. This came in the shape of Vince - a beer loving semi Mauritian trumpet player. Being a member of the original line-up, Vince was like "Dope. F'reel! I'm on it! Holla! Touch my elbow... etc. etc." Vince jumped at the chance to be a part of the Hakuna Pesa magic once again.
Kick off seemed imminent, but suddenly a beautiful little Spanish girl appeared who seduced MC Msungu with her latin passion and exotic voice - La Gitanilla flattered her way into the group. Reluctantly, the boys accepted this new band member, but it turned out that she had more skills than her partner in rhymes, so they all began again happily ever after........or so it seemed........
Romantic tradedy struck just 24 hours before the climax of our giging history. Our now ex bassist felt unable to perform and pulled the show. Thankfully though, our knight in shining armor appeard in the nick of time, wrapped in a cloak irony, he appeard to us in the form of Dr Jones (our bass player from the early HP, see above). Learning the set in the hours leading up to the gig and looking distinctively like Orlando Bloom's ugly little brother he took to the stage like a leech to blood. Delivered bass lines like no other could, and we haven't looked back since.
The newest members of the tribe to date include the incredibly talented mr Teddy from portsmouths hip hop dub ska outfit "wiservice", replacing vince who left to become a hippy in brighton. On second trombone the equally talented Will (also of wiservice fame and gone to pot) has graced the band with his supreme stage presence and relentless energy, bringing the horn section to a total of four. recently the band have been joined by various friends and comrades who look to become permenant members in the very near future................
last but not least the final member of the tribe was delivered by stork to the house of mc msungu and la gitanilla. the new bundle of joy was dropped into this world on the 26th of march 2007and was named Dennis Carlos Bentley Vazquez. he is currently looking to take over the managerial status of dr jones.
