REALLY BORING STUFF like video games, poker, hiking, traveling whenever I can afford to, being a movie snob, and daydreaming.
George Carlin. While we're at it throw in a rich supermodel with a moron fetish.
The people that go apeshit over music tend to ruin it for me, but let's drop some names: Jethro Tull. The Doors. The Beatles. Zep. Blondie. The Bangles. The various permutations of Glen Danzig. Ween. Strawberry Switchblade (thanks Carlos), and many others not good enough for me to waste valuable calories typing out.
I try to give today's movies an extra star just for trying, but I'm really into the classics. There's only been two movies since I was an adult that I wanted to go see again and again. Pulp Fiction and Spiderman I. The rest vary from downright bad to mildly entertaining, though I give Cohen Bros. movies a broad exemption from that general rule. Some films I miss the boat until the fateful day I see them on DVD, like Boogie Nights or Shaolin Soccer. The rest of my cinema affection? I tend to age backward. I've recently discovered Alfred Hitchcock and he's consumed my attention. I tend to agree with most critics that the 1970s was the greatest decade for movies. Given my nerdy upbringing, you'd think I'd like all these CGI action fests, but generally they turn me off. I also hate pop culture infused updates of old standards. Fave Directors: Hitchcock, Kubrick, Speilberg, Cohen Bros., Ang Lee, Scorcese, and I'm sure there's another or two out there I haven't got to taste yet but deserve a spot. Most hated directors: M. Night Shymalan (most celebrated hack ever and his movies aren't even eyebrow raisers let alone scary), Michael Bay, Steven Spielberg (for doing so much right yet spawning countless big budget hacks in his wake, also for doing a few hack jobs himself, and always insisting on a happy ending even if it adds an extra half hour to the film), and George Lucas for taking 6 years and 300 million dollars to make a good movie (Revenge of the Sith)
It's always nice to catch a Cheers rerun from time to time.
Don Quixote is the greatest book ever written. Some other OK reads include; A Conneticutt Yankee in King Arthur's Court. Animal Farm. 1984. I, Robot. Several Kurt Vonnegutt novels, especially his collection of short stories. The Hitchhiker's Guide series. On the Road. Hemingway. Catcher in the Rye (I know...instant crazy points for mentioning that one), and every issue of The Uncanny X Men from #108 to the end of Chris Claremont's first stint on the comic.
If I was honest here I'd have the FBI digging through my garbage can.
