Born in Brooklyn and raised in Queens, her second-story apartment window was her stage. With just a karaoke machine and a microphone, she belted out powerful renditions of Aretha Franklin, Madonna and Mariah Carey. Deemed an undeniable talent at a young age, her singing career eventually brought her to Nashville. After touring more than 35 states and having huge success with independent albums, she released a record with WORD/EPIC, the largest Gospel record label. She traveled for several years as a full time artist, where 100,000 fans witnessed her gift of music. SOFIA Js captivating voice and stage presence soon filtered into the world of pop and soul, bringing her back to her roots--New York City.She continued songwriting and recording with her longtime co-writer and producer, Jay Lyons, and their hard work and talent began paying off. In 2004, their song You Gotta Know Me was selected for the Songwriters Hall of Fame compilation CD. Next came two song placements with platinum selling international acts. Later that year, they were honored as recipients of the Abe Oleman scholarship award for Excellence in Songwriting.
