A true country music duo, Mustang Creek features a brother and sister sharing lead vocals, who grew up in a musical family singing family harmony, and formed their first band while still in high school.
The musically-diverse area of southeast Texas has grown many young people into aspiring country stars. For Brad and Shelly Brinkley, Baytown, Texas, a small town thirty miles from Houston, served as home. For them, however, their first musical influence was even closer. Their father Emmitt played fiddle with several professional artists, including Mel Street, Little Jimmy Dickens and Mark Chesnutt. Shelly recalls, “We grew up surrounded by music and musicians, and it’s just natural for us to sing together.” The two soon began singing as a duo at churches, fairs and festivals.
While still in high school, Brad and Shelly formed a band called “Southern Rein” and played venues in southeast Texas and southwest Louisiana. With a laugh, Brad says, “Singing together kept us out of trouble growing up.”
As their reputation for great live performances grew, the duo was soon in demand to open shows for country music stars such as Garth Brooks, Tim McGraw, Tracy Lawrence, David Ball, Sammy Kershaw, Gene Watson, Johnny Rodriquez, John Conlee, Willie Nelson and many others.
Recent performances include the Home Front Celebration in Fort Polk, LA with an estimated 30,000 people in attendance. Mustang Creek helped welcome home 3,000 troops that have been serving in the Middle East. The duo also played the Franklin Parish Catfish Festival, the largest one-day festival in the state of Louisiana, with an estimated 40,000 attendees. With all this activity, the duo was honored as Duo of the Year by the Atlanta Society of Entertainers.
With a family dynamic that comes through in their music and live performances, Mustang Creek has a style and sound like no other duo in country music. Newly signed with Cupit Records, Mustang Creek’s debut single “He’ll Never Be A Lawyer (‘Cause He Can’t Pass the Bar)” is a fun, up-tempo tune perfect for summertime. Mustang Creek will debut the new single during the CMA Festival in Nashville on the Riverfront stage, as well as perform a set during the “Acoustic Corner” in the Nashville Convention Center. Their yet-untitled CD is nearing completion and will be released in late 2007.
