My Interests

When I am not working I love to hang out and be mellow. Either by lounging at the beach or shopping around. I love to travel. I frequent NY but I am looking to get out of the states. It is really easy for me to become a workaholic- I love to stay busy, make money and progress in my career. I'm back in CA now hanging out with family and friends. I have been only been out of state for 3 years but it seems so much longer! Friends are engaged, married or with child. I am still single and fabulous! It is taking some tim eto readjust to the West coast again even though I was raised in CA! The long time rivalry- the East vs the West. I am a New Yorker at heart and will be back to live in the big city as soon as I can but CA is where my home is.

Music:

I love music! My music collection is pretty eclectic. Madonna my first love. I adore Jazz- especially Brazilian Jazz, even though it is in Portuguese. After living in NY I have revisited dance and electronica- mostly lyrical songs with solid beats. I still am true to 80s music (well I am an 80s baby)- Duran Duran, Depeche Mode, The Cure etc. I love old rock and roll Led Zeppelin, Cream, Steve Miller Band, Aerosmith. I could go on and on. But you get the picture!

Movies:

LA Story is one of my all time favorite movies. A true parody of life in Los Angeles written by Steve Martin. If you havent seen it rent it. Sixteen Candles of course! I can recite it verbatim! Best In Show- another classic. So I Married an Axe Murderer- one of Mike Meyers most brilliant masterpieces. Mermaids- Cher and Winona back in the day...witty and fun! Total opposite of my childhood experience.

Television:

I basically like anything that HBO produces. Sex and the City- every woman's favorite I'm sure. But after living in NY it gets better- I have been to almost all the restuarants and clubs/bars that Carrie has been to, but trust me I was not running around the city in Manolo Blahniks! The show is totally unrealistic about 1. the apartments- divide the apartment in half twice and that is a realistic NY apartment. 2. women living in heels- you walk way too much- women who wear heels 24/7 ride in cabs- and cabs can cost you a fortune 3. most of the attractive available men in NY are gay- but they make the best friends!! I also got into Six Feet Under when it was ending. Rome was cool but I did not get to see many episodes. Entourage is fun too. Dead Like Me on Showtime was fantastic. Will and Grace of course! I hope to be Karen when I grow up! JK- but I do like Jack and Karen more than Will and Grace most of the time. Finally, The Gilmore Girls- I have a weakness for sappy romantic/family comedies.

Books:

After reading numerous fiction and non fiction, theoretical papers/journals and ethnographies- I still have to say my favorite book series of all time is Harry Potter. I know cliche and it is a children's novel. But it is just one of those books that I cannot put down and have read the entire series twice already. JK Rowlings is brillant! The classics of course- Rebecca, Jane Eyre, Catcher in the Rye, The Great Gatsby. I enjoy Shakespeare but have not read a piece in years.
