About Me
Max Jensen (a.k.a. EMERGE) was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area. At the age of 13 he began playing drums, setting in motion his love for playing music. At 16, he became the drummer for the heavy metal band Human. Not only did Human perform in many local venues, but they also competed in numerous Battle of the Bands. Along with drumming for Human, Emerge was involved in a number of musical side projects, drumming and playing guitar for various bands. This was until 1995, when he was introduced to the electronic dance scene while attending raves. It was at these parties that he began watching and studying his favorite DJ's. After exploring many instruments such as drums, guitar, and bass, Emerge knew that he had finally found his true passion, the wheels of steel."
Knowing nothing about DJ'ing but the basics, he taught himself from the ground up, learning everything from the basic beat matching to scratching. After spending hundreds of dedicated hours practicing, Emerge finally developed his unique skill and style, combining seamless mixing with an incredible knowledge of the music he plays. By 1998, he had immersed himself deeply into the incredible music and culture. The style he plays varies depending on each night and each audience. However there is one aspect of his playing that will always be the same- his incredible energy and presence, something that constantly surrounds him. With all of his skill and passion for the music, he realized it was time for the next step- forming a DJ crew with people that shared the same intensity, skill, and passion for the music as himself. From this Disfunktion Crew was born.
Emerges hard work has paid off for him in recent years. In January of 2006 he placed first in a year-end competition hosted by DJForums.com, and most recently, in July of 2006, he won the Fresh Blood Mix Competition on the infamous StrongArm Sessions radio program, hosted by none other than one of the most renowned DJs and producers in the world, Elite Force (KingSize, Adrift, TCR).
Currently, Emerge hosts and produces a bi-weekly show, "FunkBox" on BreaksFM.com on Tuesdays from 7-9 PM PST(www.timeconverter.com), bringing you guest mixes from some of the best Djs from around the world. Past International artists include Elite Force (Adrift), Nick Thayer (FAT!), Hyper (Hope Recordings), Angus Robinson (Money Shot), Stone Lions (Marine Parade), Psure (TitleFight Records), Groove Allegiance (MoneyShot), Aaron Jae (Evil Breaks, XM Radio), and many more to come...
