It's a man's world, but it would be nothing without a woman or a girl. Rest in peace James Brown!

About Me

Wishing you all a Happy New Year! I was born in Hawaii, but raised in Texas. I suppose you can call me a Texawaiian. I grew up in a small town on the Texas gulf coast. My parents and I love the outdoors so we spent a lot of time at the beach and also fishing and camping when I was a kid. I've been an artist as far back as I can remember - drawing, painting, charcoal, pencil, calligraphy. I learned to play the guitar and flute as an early teen then eventually I discovered a new passion - singing in public and not just in the shower! I joined a veteran blues band in my early twenties, and several years later formed a new band, Sweet Potato Pie. Check out some of our live tunes at http://www.myspace.com/sweetpotatopiemusic. I'd love to see your smiling face at a gig. I have yet another treasure in my life that is the most wonderful gift I could wish for-- my daughter. She is quite the little drummer girl and a genius I must say. So here I am, a loving mother, wife, daughter, friend, musician, artist with much to be thankful for! Thanks for stopping by.

My Interests

Spending time with my FAMILY, MUSIC, SINGING in my BAND - Sweet Potato Pie, photography, drawing, calligraphy, riding bikes and playing sports with my daughter, fishing and going to the BEACH where my P's are, camping, vegetarianism, doing my best to help the planet. Keeping AUSTIN WEIRD. I would love to learn to salsa dance. The scent of lavender sends me into a state of euphoria. I would like to (some day soon) sit down, relax, and feel all stress and worry leave my body FOREVER. Worry will be the death of me and I am searching for inner peace. Must be hiding from me under a rock somewhere. Maybe I just need a massage.

I'd like to meet:

CAPTAIN JACK SPARROW. ARGH!My pirate name is: Red Mary Flint Passion is a big part of your life, which makes sense for a pirate. Like the rock flint, you're hard and sharp. But, also like flint, you're easily chipped, and sparky. Arr! Get your own pirate name from piratequiz.com

Music:

So much to love, but for starters... BEETHOVEN, Mozart and Mendelssohn to Billie Holiday, Louis Jordan, Ella Fitzgerald, Lena Horne, David Brubeck, Miles Davis, John Scofield and Stan Getz to Sergio Mendes, to the Beatles, Hendrix, and Zeppelin, to BB King, Albert King, Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker, and all of the old jazz and blues legends to Bob Marley and Jimmy Cliff to James Brown, Funkadelic, Otis Redding, Etta James and Al Green (everything funky), to the B52's and Bowie, to Lucinda Williams, Patsy Cline, Willie and Johnny Cash and LOOOOretta. Of course let's not forget the FANTABULOUS Van Morrison and my new faves James Hunter and Corinne Bailey Rae. Bill Withers, Jack Johnson, Los Lobos and John Mayer, Lauryn Hill, Pink Floyd, The Stones, Steely Dan,...oh my the list goes on.... and full circle to Puccini, Verdi, Delibes and Debussy. There are so many talented Austin bands out there too! Hey folks, SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL MUSICIANS wherever you are! By the way, there isn't an Art option here - I love Alphonse Mucha for starters and of course ALL of my daughter's artwork.

Movies:

I'm not a big movie critic, but some that have made me laugh, cry, or scare me are Big Fish, Pulp Fiction, History of the World (Mel Brooks), Kill Bill 1 & 2, Seabiscuit, Million Dollar Baby, Crash, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Arthur (Dudley Moore), Good Fellas, My Fair Lady (ok I'm a dork, shut it), most Audrey and Katherine Hepburn movies, Some Like It Hot, Raising Arizona, Best In Show, Spinal Tap, The Shining, Silence of the Lambs, The Aristocats, The Jungle Book, Alice in Wonderland (I refuse to grow up), American Beauty, Down and Out in Beverly Hills, Forrest Gump, Pink Panther (the original one), Blazing Saddles, too many to remember, more to come.

Television:

Your TV Lies.

Books:

Lately I just haven't found the time to read as much as I'd like. Please feel free to suggest a 'must read' though. When I do find...or make the time, it's just a few minutes here and there, so I try to catch up on health info. I became a vegetarian March 15, 2006. I'm learning all I can about relieving STRESS, vitamins and herbs, food (the good, the bad and the ugly), etc. I do love writings/poetry by Lewis Carroll, Edgar Allan Poe and Emily Dickinson. They always put a smile on my face. "If I can stop one heart from breaking, I shall not live in vain: If I can ease one life the aching, Or cool one pain, Or help one fainting robin Unto his nest again, I shall not live in vain" - Emily Dickinson

Heroes:

My daughter who is an absolute inspiration and my cousin Matt who just returned home from serving a year in Iraq as a medic in the Army. Our family is relieved that he is home safe now. Also, Ludwig van Beethoven - the greatest composer that ever lived.
