This Girl didn't turn out quite the way she was supposed to do...

I used to do a zine called unDeep

I'm working on a new 'zine called This Girl. It'll probably be more of a mini comic, actually. It's going to be about moving 1,200 miles and loving where you move to but then having a dreadfully hard time getting a job. Not autobiographical at all, nope, uh-uh.

My Interests

THE CRAIC!; irish dance (step & ceili), trad irish music, trad scottish music, some english folk music, the trad-meets-rock-and-punk-and-electronica music; mandolin playing, books (reading them and collecting old ones), 'zines, my cat, knitting, being facetious, changing the world one smile at a time

I'd like to meet:

All the friends I've made here in MPLS. In my apartment for a potluck. I don't know when though.

previously: people who aren't trapped by fashion. people who aren't trapped by the status quo. people who like to talk; quietly. people i can learn from but who are willing to learn from me. anyone who plays trad music and irish dances. anarchists (real ones, not little boys - and girls - who run around pretending to be angry & therefore anarchists). these are people i like meeting. i've met a lot of the people who are still living whom i'd like to meet. but i'd like to meet margaret atwood, but i've not a clue what i would say... "er, hi, i like your books.") i'd like to meet kate rusby, i think; as long as she's as sweet as her music. seamus heaney...

Music:

altan, the bothy band, the clash, chumbawamba, oysterband, the bordercollies (usa), capercaillie, teenage fanclub, kate rusby, margaret bennett, martyn bennett, croft no. five, bmx bandits, flogging molly, gaelic storm, prodigals, jim moray, the woggles, old blind dogs, js & the mescaleros, eugene kelly/eugenius/the vaselines, levellers, irish step dance practice music (yeah, sad innit?)

Movies:

muppet movies; contact; slc punk; lotr; fern gully; mystery train; athens ga inside out; finding nemo

Television:

only while knitting... and I do miss it. lately it's been tapes of irish dancing or The State from back in '95. I actually miss Forensic Files.

Books:

catch 22; the ugly american; all novels by margaret atwood, douglas adams, james kelman, alasdair gray; the white stallion (children's book - i adored it as a child); where the wild things are; LOTR; eats, shoots, and leaves; a meal observed; living my life (emma); contact; the dictionary is also a useful book

Heroes:

Me mum (deceased), Joe Strummer (hmm.. deceased), Emma Goldman (hmmm... deceased), Margaret Bennett (we have a live one!), Anyone who OVERCOMES!

Never thought we'd get this far...

One of my favorite Oysterband lyrics is from their song "I Know it's Mine." It says, "We followed an unlikley star / never throught we'd get this far / now we don't know where we are / but, hey, we're...
