my name is millenni. i am a female, 7 year old mix. no one knows for sure just what i am a mix of but i think i am a little shuitzu, lhasa apso, and poodle. none of that really matters though because everyone who meets me falls in love with me instantly. i am a small dog and weigh somewhere between 12-18 pounds depending on how many treats i eat and whether or not i have been groomed and had a lot of my hair cut off. i am a ball of energy.... for about 2 minutes then i tire out and have to rest. i have never once met a stranger and i greet everyone like they are my best friend in the entire world. my favorite thing to do is take walks in the park. oh how i love that! sometimes my mom takes me to the enclosed track at the park near our house and removes my leash so i can run freely. i think i am in paradise when that happens. i run around the track like a gold medal winner at the olympics never stopping to look back. my legs are really short so i wear myself out running. i am the most loved dog on the planet and i know it. my mom and dad got me in september 1999. mom was feeling lonely when their daughter left for college and she needed something to fill the void in her life. she was looking for a dog and one day she saw an ad in the newspaper in north carolina that said someone had found 2 little black puppies and couldn't find their owners and they couldn't keep us. my mom called and said she would be right there. by the time she arrived my sister had been given away and i was left all alone. i saw her walking toward me and i knew she was the mom i was looking for. we ran toward each other and i jumped into her arms and since that day my life has been wonderful. i often wonder about my sister and what her family is like. mom says she would have taken us both in a heartbeat but i am kinda glad i have all her attention and love. a few years ago i gave mom and dad a big scare. something happened to my back and i nearly died. i had a disc problem and my spinal cord became so compressed that i lost all function of my back legs, bowel and bladder. mom and dad were so scared and they rushed me to the vet. they were told that i needed emergency surgery and sent us to a major university medical hospital near atlanta where i underwent extensive surgery. mom was crying and i knew she and dad were both very upset and sad. they told my doctors to do what ever was necessary to save me. it was very expensive but they loved me so much that they didn't hesitate to do what was needed to save my life. after the surgery i was scared and alone. mom would drive an hour each day to see me while i recovered in the ICU at the hospital. we would spend a few minutes together and mom would always cry. i had a difficult time after the surgery but after 5 days the doctors said i was well enough to go home. that was the best news i had heard in a long time. i was still in pain and when we got home dad picked me up and loved on me and said everything was going to be alright and at that moment everything changed and i started healing. when mom took me back to the surgeon for a check up a month later he couldn't believe the progress i had made. i was taken back by my surgeon to see all the other surgeons as a dog who made a full recovery. my surgeon was so proud of me and told mom and the other doctors there that this was how the surgery was supposed to turn out but in most cases it doesn't. it took me over a year to get back to 100% and now i still have some limitations and my back legs are not as strong as they used to be but my mom says i am 99.9% so that is good enough for both of us! i have a wonderful life and share it with mom and dad and our kitty, oreo. she's a cat but i don't know that. when mom brought her home as a wee little kitten she told me it was my baby. i really don't like cats too much and if you asked me where the cat is i never think of oreo. i try to act all brave like i am a big bad dog when i see a cat out the window but a few times when i have been outside and come face to face with a cat it has scared me to death and i cry like a scared baby and run away. i have embarrassed mom and dad on a few occassions when i have done this. i am a smart dog and can do a few commands like sit, speak, shake, give five, and give kisses. i also know a lot of words and i enjoy it when mom talks to me. i understand everything she says although sometimes i try to ignore her and pretend i don't hear her. we just recently moved from austin, texas to greenville, south carolina. so that is all about me, now you know more than you ever wanted to know.
