Small towns have a tendency of producing artists that break the mold. Grand Rapids, MI is one of those towns, and The Orphan is one of those artists. The Orphan is categorized as a hardcore band, but as any of their fans will tell you, they encompass SO much more.
After a solid two years of weekend shows around the Great Lakes region in support of their debut EP, There's Only One Thing Left To Do (Mos Eisleys Records); and their self-released LP "The Tragedy of Giving Up", The Orphan had many nationally touring artists supporting them, and a couple national record labels showing interest. Eventually, The Orphan disbanded as members found themselves in other projects... Most notably in bands such as It Dies Today (Trustkill Records), Adamore, and The Skyline Obscura (ex-Bloodlined Calligraphy & Chiodos)
Having a melodic and pop-sensible spin on technical metal is an often-sought, but rarely captured sound. The Orphan proved themselves as one of the alpha-groups in this genre. See for yourself at www.theorphan.net, let the music speak for itself.
