Mr.Lee*G band is soul, versatility and Flavor

About Me

Mr. Lee*G comes from given name Leroy Griffith jr. Musical roots started at the age of 3 years old. He started singing in the SDA church choir in Trinidad the island of his birth. He migrated to the US(Brooklyn) with dreams of becoming a star. He later enrolled into Julia Richman (Talent unlimited) school of performing arts, were he studied musical theatre. After graduation he realized that he wanted to create and perform more urban music, because it was what he was feelin more, than anything else. During college he continue to do the open mics and free shows, and started networking with people that felt the same way. MrLee*G have been featured on a number of artist CD's for instants:Master ace, Disposable arts, songs" Every other day" and "ENUFF", same artist new CD titled,"A long hot summer" song "Good ol luv", Cherokee's single,Let me show you and MK feat Alana,"Surrender" the Album, songs Precious jewels, love changes and surrender. In 2001 linked up with Ethiopian taste records and did a single called," the healing of the nation" on 7" vinyle which we sold through mom/pop store through out Brooklyn and the other 4 boroughs. We sold them from my car trunk as well as, at Ethiopian taste store. We pressed 5 thousand copies and they are all gone. In 2002 we visited Sweden and did a show with a Swedish band called,"Svartt Uhuru" in the city of Ostersund. I remember it was a great show, the crowd of about 400 plus was jammin to the reggea songs of SU and Lee*G. The leader of the band was a dude name Mattias Emanuelsson, and he gave me a 45min segment to do my thing, and it was on. That easter Sunday night everything was just right, the band, the sound of the mic,the monitors, the audiance showed mad luv, and the funny thing is, that we did that show, with just one rehearsal. The chemistry was there, so we decided that following year to do an album together. One that would encooperate jazz and reggea on the same tracks. S.U did the music and Lee*G provided all the lyrics and melodies for the songs. We finished that project and its called the,"Europroject" 10 hot songs to be released in the near future. Meanwhile working on the Europroject we continued our Qwest at home NYC, we released another 45 single on vinyle called,"Believe" on Ethiopian taste records, and then a soca tune title," a man to a woman" 45 vinyl on same label. In 2004 Lee*G did the verizon," ladies first tour" with acts Tamia, Missy Elliott, Alicia Keys and Beyounce. He was actually a part of the Beyounce camp. His Job was to carry Beyounce to the stage every show on a layed back chair ( called a pelaquiann) with 3 other guys (called muscle men). Picture the queen of Sheba being cared on her Thrown by 4 of her fearless warriors bareback with Kilts and Tims on. If you were at any of those shows then you could remember it being the Boom!!!!!!!!! After that three month tour Lee*G started working on a Lee*G CD . So while doing some hooks for rapper Masta Ace in the studio, Lee*G started working with Filtyrich on some mixtape beats, putting together a mixtape. In October of 2004 Lee*G did the Royal caribbean cruise sponsored by Cedric Stewart and the Bay Valley Corvette club of Sacrament Ca. Lee*G shared the stage with artist like Rod Wayne of the,"Blue magic", Ali Woodson former lead singer of the Legendary Temptations, and the Intruders. Comedian Luenell, Mo jones and Pam o neil. Very humblin experience! says Lee*G. In the summer 2005 Lee*G does colambo with Canadian beats man Ghislain Porier, creating the club banger,"Dem nah like me" which is to be released spring of 2006. He also did some songs with producer,"lew cypher" A.K.A Lukas Kaiser. This producer did the track for my title song on my mix CD,"They wanna know who's Lee*G". He also does a few tracks on the up coming CD from Lee*G titled,"Real recognize Real" look out for it coming soon. End of summer 2005 Lee*G hooks up with director Mat Donnelly of Montreal Canada. And in three day, shot a Video, in and around Brooklyn and Manhattan, for the song,"They wanna know". After almost 7 months of editing and getting it together, with next to no budget, its finally ready to hit the air wave.......... aaahhhhhh man!!!!!!!! its not easy! but then again, who said that it was!!!!!!!!!....... right! Lookout for Lee*G and the band coming with some new flavor in yuh ear. We live music, cause music is life, and thats our passion. Regardless of the trials and tribulations we encounter, we continued to push forward, and BANG!!!! here we are. Doing it like no other. There are alot of story we can tell, sad ones, happy ones, as well as learnig ones. But there is not enough space to write them. So in closing we will say the key is to BELIEVE in yourself, and never give up, were there is a will, there is always a way. 1 love and jah bless. Love is the answer to all our problems.........Yo!

Sounds Like: Lee*G has a soulful unique sound, thats like no other. When he sing you can hear that he was influenced by soulful croners like Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, R.Kelly and Jodeci. The vibratum comes from some place deep in his soul. When he chant/rhyme he has his own thing as well, but you can hear influences of the great Shabba ranks and capelton. Even some Calypsonians like the Black stalin and Shadow, to name a couple. Therefore you would have to say that he is a unique combination of all the artist mentioned earlier. His life experiences helped to mold him into the artist he is. The more you lisen to his music the more you see this to be true.
