A swirling leaf has a certain elegance, grace and beauty to it, something that is hard to capture. And yet, that is exactly what the young Belgian band Leaf does.
Leaf was founded by Evelien Vanlede and Maarten Thiry. They share a great passion for music and guitars, so to start writing their own songs was only a small step away. Bass player Sigi Thewis, who also plays in the rock band Amoebe, joined first. A few weeks later, drummer Bert Carremans was warmly welcomed.
Since neither of them was very keen on singing, the search for a lead singer was launched. Eventually, Karen Verresen joined to become the face and voice of the band. Soon after Patricia Leyssens, who takes care of the backing vocals, completed the picture.
Their sound is pretty unique: fragile, rocking, atmospheric, touching... It is very difficult to stick a specific label. The compelling singing is considered somewhere in between Heather Nova, Norah Jones and Anouk. Pop music with an edge, to put it briefly.
