About Me
Myke's Musical journey began like most others fumbling through his parents record collection. Names like: ELO, The Doors, Led Zeppelin, Cream and so on and so on, became a much happier alternative than 80's pop bands...
However it was not untill 1992 that Myke began playing drums, which became a his driving force throughout teen years. Following in the styles of Alternative bands such as Live, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, and the Smashing Pumkins. Myke persued Drumming untill the ill fated discovery of Electronic Music and the Melbourne Club Scene in the late 1990's, when the bulky pig skins were substituted with a more streamlined version in that of a software plugin.
From then it was the stylings of Massive Attack, Lamb, Portishead, Tricky, and the Bristol Trip Hop movement in general that caught hold of his creativity. Learning the tricks of the trade from Melbourne heavyweight producers Toni and Vas Lozanovski, Myke quickly became fluent in the production process, and whilst adding Keyboard to his array of instrumental education, drew on his past skills as a drummer to work as producer/engineer on Trip Hop projects with members of local electronic outfit Symbiotic Sound System.
At the same time Myke was also Dj-ing Progressive House and Breakbeat at local Melbourne nightclubs like Mega Bar, Aqua Lounge, Room, Brown Alley, Altitude and TFU, and playing at parties such as Monkey, DarkBeat, Ascend and Private Fucntion.
More recently Myke helped with the launch and development of local electronic group RedBee, teaming up with sultry vocalist Sara Bee and DJ Andi Red to create and live remix/cover group that quickly climbed the Melbourne ladder of success to play support to names like James Zabelia, Nic Fanciulli and Dave Seaman under the UK's Renaissance banner, and supporting local rockstars like Dan Mangan, Mark James, and Rollin Connection. Sara and Myke now continue their musical journey as "Lumiera", with a wide range of influence the project incorporates Trip Hop and Downtempo developing in the studio, whilst wowing the crowds out on the town with their blend of dancefloor friendly hybrid sets.
In early 2005 Myke launched with sucessful Melbourne DJ VasOne, Saturday Sessions... a late night radio show on Melbournes JOY 94.9. Now known as Vinylizm, the show reeled in week after week of talented guests like: Habersham and Numinous, Phil K, Tom Neville, Groove Junkies, Rollin Connection, Sister Bliss, Katie Drover, Faddi Fresh, Alex K, Dj Agent 99, local producer percussionist Rob Care, etc, etc... and now continues to be Melbournes most happening "Live" Saturday night dance show.
Now an authentic, fully fledged Bachelor of Music, Myke can attach some letters to the end of his name... B.Mus. thats one letter for every year it took... aside from that he continues to develop sound for film and multimedia, whist working on the upcoming Lumiera EP scheduled for some time later this year.
You can listen to Myke and Vas, as well as a plethora of local and international electronica weekly on Melbournes JOY 94.9/joy.org.au from 11pm Saturday Nights.
Keep your eyes out for productions and performances by Myke under DJ act: Myke Ireland, or with outfits Lumiera, Phire Of Phoenix and alongside names like Drive, Dan Banko, Toni Lozanovski, Damon Lane and many many more...
