Self-taught singer/songwriter, Leah Rushforth, is an emerging talent on the Australian Music Scene. Influenced by Lucinda Williams, Martha Wainwright, Jeff Buckley and teenage Fanclub to name but a few, Leah's Style is best described as Acoustic Rock/Folk. Her husky tones and resonating higher range make for a provoking and enthralling performance.In recent times Leah reached the top 30 of 2005 Australian Idol, and wa s afinalist in the 2004 DOM "Icon" competition. Leah has performed at the AIDS Trust Food and Wine fair, supported Adison McCoy at The Metro in Sydney, and also performed as a guest at Arq Nightclub in Sydney at "Moist" during in a final heat for their Drag Kings Competition. During both the "Australian Idol" and Icon" competitions Leah attracted favourable attention from the judges. During her semi final performance on Australian Idol Mark Holden told her she "lit up the screen" for him, whilst Marcia Hines told Leah throughout the competition that she had the unique ability to make the audience believe what she was singing.During her Grand Final performance for "Icon" Ian "Dicko" Dickson told Leah if she only believed in herself she would be unstoppable - Advise Leah certainly seems to have taken on board!Leah is constantly playing gigs around Sydney (and soon Melbourne) check her website for mroe details (leahrushforth.net.au) and recently performed at Fair Day in Sydney as part of the Mardis Gras celebrations. She is also hoping to release her EP later this year. Leah works with female juvenile offenders in custody, incorporating her love of music and song writing with programs to prevent reoffending and to inspire more self-confidence in the young people she works with. Leah is a suprisingly versatile performer, able to adapt to almost any given situation. However what remains constant is her ability to speak directly from her heart to yours.
