Masugn was formed as a full live set in the beginning of 2005. 2 demos were recorded and 2 members disappeared. Some gigs were scheduled and IT reappeared. Drummer Jimmy Månsson ran off to the forest never to be seen again. Guitarist Alexander Fridén started to elevate. He travelled up and down in the buildings of strangers. They walked other paths in the archipelago. We continued just the two of us, thinking maybe we could be three. Drummers came, drummers left. Some were grinders and some were into snare drum march music. We had to move on. Robin Andreasson popped up from the ground. A funky fungus for us all. The new music went to be recorded in Studio MT with Marko Tervonen and the bonnet of trols. More melanchgression, more frustration and more insight. We named it Basins in the archipelago from the invisible fence that surrounded us. We borrowed the name from the dissidents. Basins in the archipelago is an expression that goes way back. The essence aroused by the first indication of civilization. It explains the urge for a basin inside the severe, stormy ocean. But it is also defining the anxiety-ridden need of a basin inside the calmest of seas. We are floating in it, facing downwards with blue faces. There’s not much more to it. We are here now.
