Hypothyptica's History
Even from an early age, J showed musical promise, picking out melodies on the family piano, or beating out a rhythm on his toy drums. For three years during late elementary and middle-school, he took weekly piano lessons, progressing quickly through both classical and contemporary scores, and learning theory in the process.
As J entered high school, he auditioned for concert choir. His freshman year, he entered the state vocal solo competition, earning very good marks, but falling just short of continuing on in the competition. Concert choir, and the following year, mixed and men’s ensembles became his passion, allowing him to experience a wide range of musical styles.
During his senior year of high school, J added a creative music course. In this class he was allowed and encouraged to experiment with voice and instruments in new and different ways. As the final for this class, he composed a choir number in six-part harmony, choreographed hand clapping, and sung in a Swahili-like chant. His test was to teach this original piece to the choir, and direct the choir in the final performance of the year. The piece received both public acclaim from the audience in the form of a standing ovation, and critical acclaim from the choir director. He also received an “A+†for his grade.
J went on to study music in college, majoring in both music and art. He felt these two areas complimented each other. He worked especially hard in music theory, understanding and creating increasingly more difficult and complex arrangements and movements. Although he has yet to finish his degree, he has taken what he has learned over the years and has created some compositions both fun and hauntingly beautiful. Although “techno†is his favorite musical vehicle, he is also adept at more classical numbers, such as “Musicbox.â€
Take some time to listen to his music…lean back, close your eyes, and imagine yourself in a different place and time…
