CIRCLE OF FUNK

SOULFUL & DEEP HOUSE / HIP HOP / EXPERIMENTAL

About Me

Introducing Circle of Funk, Lee Robinson, Andy Caulfield and Paul Stephenson as the new up and coming soulful house DJs and producers from the music capital of the South West, Bristol. These guys have been behind the scenes for too long and this year sees there first release on their new Label soon to be launched SLAPPED UP SOUL RECORDS.

COF originally from Bristol first teamed up back in 1993 where Andy and Lee took to the radio waves and launched 2 shows on Bristol's leading pirate radio station Passion Fm. Playing a mixture of Hip-Hop/RnB on one show and House/Garage on the other. The two of them being old school pals from the same school that has seen the likes of THE BEGINERZ, STANTON WARRIORS and DJ MADCUT (UK DMC Supremacy Champion 2002). The show was long standing and ran for over 2 years and resulted in a number of opportunities to play in Clubs/Bars in Bristol and surrounding areas.

Through college Lee met Paul (AKA DJ uppercut at the time) and through their mutual love of Hip Hop became friends. Through a number of chance meetings or some would call it fate they joined forces with the likes of DJ Madkut, Ricochet and Trixta to form the Cutz crew. They formed - what was to be - one of the most successful underground Hip-Hop radio shows running throughout the whole of the South West. The success grasped even the attention of radio 1s Tim Westwood who invited them all to appear on his Infamous Saturday night show, Worldwide. Continuing success saw the Cutz Crew elevate themselves through their Turntablist skills, lyrical flows and production where DJ Madkut, Trixta & Principal formed the B-Bop crew and then later the Label, Crutchporn Records. Paul Stephenson Andy Caulfield and Lee Robinson, soon realized that although Hip Hop was there first love, they were becoming increasingly more involved within the Soulful House scene. At first going to more and more soulful house events such as Soul Heaven, Garage City & Club Shelter in New York which encouraged the 3 to start playing soulful house. 2003 saw them prop themselves up into the Soulful House scene with plays in a number of bars and Clubs in and around London, Croatia and Spain.
