Work in progress: Center of the Universe Time-space continuum trilogy
1. Anachronisma 2. Simulacra 3. Apocrypha
The trilogy starts out with "Anachronisma" (2006), an album about misplacement in time, and about longing for a time long before we were born. How is it possible to be sentimental about an era you've never lived in? The accordion wail about zeppelins, mandolins sing their tremolo blues, and clarinettes moan about steam-trains, and telegrams tell of lost love and stories about walking into the starry night, staff in hand, with satelites and stars watching you from above. On this album the rhythms of an eighties casio and samples from a forties grammophone are recorded by a seventies microphone onto a nineties harddrive recorder and mixed on a noughties computer. The result is beguine-fueled banjo-driven highly whistleable music.
Yet to be released is "Simulacra" (2008), the album about misplacement in space. If there was no space, everything would be at the same point, packed together like materia in a black hole. Extremely dense and with collected sounds from various intruments crashed together at high speeds; this album is a pitch black room. Noises and reverbations from non-euclidean structures are strictly systemised and condensed into a groove that shifts in dimension from one particle to a galaxy in the blink of an eye. In this space-less space, the music is trying to sound like the music of the real world, like a tree resembling a crooked man, a dragon seen in clouds, or a face seen in surface the of stone.
The third album "Apocrypha" (2008 hopefully) is about origin, and contains folk-tunes of dubious authenticity; A "what if" album of non-existent musical traditions that defies both space and time, and borrows or steals from myriad influences. Over the mountains of azerbaijan, to the greek isles and to the british isles via Armenia the stringed and reeded instruments carry us. Backed up by a seventies drumkit, accordion and low electronic frequencies, Apocrypha will be a folksploitational journey to a place where the night is as light as the day, and where the trilogy ends.
