It's all about the groove. I was fortunate enough to be pointed in the right direction with great music. Growing up in the Windsor/Detroit area, is a great place to be for a horn player to grow and develop. Being influenced by "The Motown Sound" and others of the 60-70's soul/funk era. My buddy and I would sneak into bars while still in high school and watch as many of the bands as we could taking notes on their presence, attire, playing and song selections always asking questions and run down the the record shops the next day.Today, I keep discovering great stuff like Joe Houston, Bullmoose Jackson, Clifford Scott, Lee Allen, and Sil Austin. Great additions to already discovered honkers like Louis Jordan, Red Prysock, Sam Butera, Sax Gordon Beadle, Greg Piccolo, Kaz Kazanoff and many countless others like Jr. Walker, Stanley Turrentine, King Curtis Ousley, Lenny Pickett, etc.For the past 6 1/2 years I have been at the wheel of Windsor's "premier" jump-a-billy blues band THE DOCTONES with Howie Fryer, Ed Gravel and One of THE Founding Fathers of the Windsor Blues scene Doc Wright, after taking over for my mentor "Big Joe" Piccolo.Presently I also round out the line up in a dance/variety band BRAND X.
