Drunken Munks

Where's the buzz gone??!

About Me

Drunken MunksJmack and Jiddy may sounds like characters from a 70’s blaxploitation flick, but we are in fact Jason McKurdy and Paul Joseph respectively; lyricist and producer of the Manchester based hip-hop duo, the Drunken Munks. Combining a love for a wide range of music genres, and a mutual dislike for the tedium arising from much of the current hip-hop trends (we’ve never been, or plan to be pimps!), we have a fresh, exciting and uncompromising style and approach to the genre. We firmly believe in the importance of embracing the techniques of past and contemporary greats as well as contributing to the development of future. The Drunken Munks formed 18 months ago, and have been busy in both the creation and performance processes since. Whilst we have both performed together or individually for over ten years, the Drunken Munks project illustrates the destination these prior paths have been leading. Whilst we often find ourselves singing from the same rap sheet, it’s our different backgrounds and tastes that really provide our music with its direction. Our many live sets around Manchester (Missing in Manchester at the Music Box, Dry Bar, Font Bar, Cast, Jabez Clegg amongst other promotional dates) have been met with consistently positive feedback from audiences and promoters, citing our energy and distinctive aesthetic. Infusing breakbeat, jazz, rock and funk with our hip-hop roots, we hope to bring an original and innovative sound to the genre, for people who want to hear what they got into it in the first place for: strong production and lyrical delivery.
