Mr Gee
Woah... (writing this stuff is always difficult!)...Okaaaay.... I started off as a DJ playing mainly Hip Hop and Funk grooves in clubs and bars. I then became interested in Spoken Word and the underground poetry scene in London and for many years I hosted a highly acclaimed Spoken Word entertainment night called "Brix-Tongue" in South London. This led me onto radio presenting. I've guest-hosted the "London Diaspora Live" show on Resonance radio and I was the main host for the SONY award nominated series "Bespoken Word" on BBC Radio where I've aimed to bring the UK Spoken Word scene to a larger audience. I was the "Poet Laureate" on comedian Russell Brand's hugely popular BBC 6music/Radio 2 program, writing a new poem every week during each show. I sometimes also review the newspapers and speak on current issues for the "Late Show" on Radio London.
As a Spoken Word Poet myself, I have performed all over the UK and abroad: at the Edinburgh Fringe festival, at the Nuyorican Poets cafe in NYC, at the "Black Lily" night in Philly and at the Toronto International Slam Competition in Canada.
I run "creative Writing" worshops in Schools and Colleges within London, where I hope to bring a greater appreciation of words and literacy among the students that I teach.
I've written comedy for TV and monologues for independent film releases and I do voice over work for the Hip Hop and R&B shows on MusFlash TV (Sky +375). I wrote, produced and arranged my own album "Poetry in the Key of Gee" to show the variety of different subject matter that my words cover (and I shamelessly pretended to be really important when I told my friends that I was "busy in the studio!").
"Poetry in the Key of Gee is that rarity, a Spoken Word album that lasts the course. Righteously entertaining and entertainingly righteous":- Straight No Chaser, music magazine.
There....... I think that's about it .....(But knowing me, I've probably forgotten something really important tho')
