About Me

Having never been formally introduced to cinematography prior to entering college, Cliff Charles immediately gravitated to it while at school. There he also served as Vice President and President consecutively of the school’s Film Society and quickly revived the lifeless organization by implementing a guest speaker series. This type of initiative earned Charles an internship on the set of Clockers, a film directed by Spike Lee just weeks after completing his formal education. This would mark the beginning of an exciting career for Charles who finds himself most comfortable behind the lens. Among his credits, Charles has worked with artists like Mos Def, Faith Evans, Mudvayne and Britney Spears and has shot television spots for State Farm, TNT, Oil of Olay, Lifetime TV and Anheuser Busch. Exactly ten years after his internship for Spike Lee, Charles teamed up with the famed director on The N’s groundbreaking mini-series Miracle’s Boys, where he also had the opportunity to work with directors Ernest Dickerson, Neema Barnett, Bill Duke, and LeVar Burton. Charles continues to associate himself with fresh, new and exciting projects like the upcoming HBO documentary When the Levees Broke, where once again he’ll be paired with director Spike Lee. In the world of Independent Feature Films, Charles’ credits include the 2006 Spirit Award nominee and winner of the 2005 LA Film Festival Jellysmoke, the award winning romantic comedy Thirty Years to Life, the underground cult hit Shottas and the Hip Hop slacker film Men Without Jobs. His websites are www.cliffcharles.com and www.thepeoplesdp.com
