About Me

How do you get involved with IrishUnsigned projects? It seems that almost everyone who requests IrishUnsigned be added to their friends list, if they are in a band, then almost instantly send us a message asking for us to do something for them, such as give them a gig.It also seems like these bands etc have not taken the time to at least look at our site and see what it is we do, why, and for whom. It's not only the 'new' friends. People who have been receiving our mails and bulletins for a while are the same.So I have to repeat this messageWe can't be seen to help bands out who are not even on the site, so start here:http://www.irishunsigned.com/detailsform.phpIf you are not already listed on www.IrishUnsigned.com, then do it. Otherwise, we can't help you.On top of that, IrishUnsigned is all about helping Acts who are actually working on something. Gigs are a very (very) small, part of what we do. You are more likely to need our assistance if you are about to start recording, have a CD about to be released, have legal or managerial issues you need advice on or are just curious about the sort of strategy you should adopt to the Irish music industry. When we get involved in gigs, they are usually gig-swap arrangements, CD launches or other band-related events.Bands have to prove themselves to be supportive of the whole music community, rather than just looking for something. We believe that you should get out of it what you put into it. Keep that in mind, then ask us how we can help with something *specific*Ron, IrishUnsigned 0879748263What is IrishUnsigned IrishUnsigned is a cross-genre, nationwide showcase and advisory/educational resource for all new or unsigned Irish acts, whatever they play, from Fenders to Fiddles. We don't deem it to be relevant whether these acts want to get signed or whether they intend to go about their music in a DIY or even anti-industry manner. IrishUnsigned will help to develop and promote an already vibrant Irish music scene at grass roots level whether it be for the benefit of the bands, the buying and gig-going public or the industry itself. We believe that information is the key to accurate and effective decision-making at all levels - and exposure is the key to success. These are the two areas we try to focus on. IrishUnsigned will also encourage music fans to 'cross-over' to different genres and styles. All types and styles - from rock to reggae, classical to calypso, traditional to top-ten material will be featured on IU.Some of the 400+ Acts featured in the Artists section of IrishUnsigned have been afforded national media exposure of the highest level while others have probably never been seen outside their own bedroom or garage. To us, it is irrelevant how well known a band or act is: IrishUnsigned do not consider it a prerequisite for a band to have the capability of attracting hundreds of fans to gigs, or of selling hundreds of CD's. In fact, since we are all about not making money an issue in our dealings with bands, their 'fame' or otherwise is all-but pointless as far as IU is concerned. Our main purpose in creating IrishUnsigned.com was to provide an online one-stop resource for bands and artists to gather information about the music business so they can make educated decisions, as well as for media, or industry organisations to access new and upcoming bands, see/hear them and arrange showcase/contact gigs etc. We are a non-profit making organisation and our sole reason for existing is to ensure that there is a middle ground between the music makers and the money makers. No, really, it is...

My Interests

Our interests are musc, especially developing grass-roots Irish music

I'd like to meet:

New singers, bands and all types of Artists and Musicians, especially those who believe in the community and co-operative approach to development and self-help.For logistical and legal reasons, each Act must have at least one Irish member and may not be currently signed to a Major record label or a label directly owned by any of the Major's or any of their subsidiaries. Independent and own-label Acts are welcome.

Music:

The Genre is irrelevant. IrishUnsigned features Rock, Reggae, Ska, Punk, Pop, Celtic, Traditional, Heavy Metal. Whatever.

Movies:

Probably the best movie I ever saw, considering it's origin, was The Shawshank Redemption. Having started out as a (very) short story by Stephen King, called "Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption" it went onto become acecpted as one of the best moview of all time

Television:

Don't watch TV much. Hate reality TV. Watch the odd movie, occasional footy matches, Formula 1. Not much else. Even music on TV does nothing for me. Rather have the collection of odds and sods that's on my computer

Books:

I read a lot. A hell of a lot. Mostly in the Jacks, or the bath or when travelling. Big fan of Stephen King, probably read everyhting he has written, including the seven-volume Dark Tower series (his best work, at least up til volume 5), plus other similar stuff, but Ir ead anything, especially when there is nothing left. Even read all the Harry Potter books the kids have, plus Nikolai Tolstoy (tough going, not to be recommended for a light read)

Heroes:

Don't really have any heroes. I like people who buck the trend, who speak up for themselves and others, who - in a nutshell - are anti-establishment (but not Anarchic).
