About Me

As far back as 1982 Eric Devries fronted the Amsterdam based trio Dance Stance supporting The Jam. In 1991 Devries founded The Big Easy, earning critical acclaim from both public and press which resulted in many live performances on national radio stations. In 92 The Big Easy came in second in the biggest talent hunt competition known as the Grote Prijs van Nederland. The band was renowned for their combination of acoustic and electric guitar as well as for the songs and lyrics of Devries. Despite the touring and media attention they never got a record-deal and finally in 96 they quit. After a period of inevitable artistic reconsideration Devries went on to join the dutch- singing roots rock band Bengels on guitar. As guitarist BJ Baartmans once joined the last line-up of the Big Easy so did Devries join the Bengels right after the release of their debut album. Bengels released a second album with both Devries and Baartmans on guitar but due to the bankruptcy of the record company the bands career was halted in its tracks. However the joined forces of Baartmans and Devries were continued by starting to perform as an acoustic singer-songwriter duo. Between their shared passions for americana and songwriting they came up with a variety of musical influences that featured their singing as well as their fingerpicking guitar styles. Besides performing as a singer-songwriter duo Devries also joined Baartmans in his band BJ's Pawnshop. At the end of 2003 Devries finished recording his solo album 'Little of a Romeo'. Together with longtime friend and sidekick Stephan van der Meijden, as both drummer and producer, Devries finally decided to show his hand. With contributions by a.o. BJ Baartmans on slide guitar, Eric van de Bovenkamp on piano, Arend Bouwmeester on clarinet, Emma Breedveld on violin, Little of a Romeo also features a stunning duet between Devries and Powderblue lead-singer Marjolein van der Klauw. From the intimate 'Lost in Between' to the more outgoing 'Start anew', from the bare and sorrowfull 'Remains of the Day' to the emptyhandedness of 'But for the Gace of god' , Devries takes you from a tear to a possibly lopsided grin. With these songs Devries confirms his once appraised status as a songwriter.April 2004 saw the release of 'Little of a Romeo'. Airplay by both national and local radiostations was what followed. As well as a tour of America's sooner state Oklahoma and a TV appearance on Devries' hometown TV station AT5. Devries also contributed to the tribute live cd in honor of Ad van Meurs a.k.a. The Watchman, recorded at The Gazstation in Helden-Panningen.Teaming up with contemporary collegues resulted in the birth of Songwriters United. This singing-songwriting collective released a live concert DVD in june 2005. A clip with Devries' ''Ballad of Johnny and Ginny" was released in summer. The new album "Sweet Oblivion" will be released in november 2007 on Inbetweens Records."Walk back in the rain" by Eric Devries
