Monique de Jong

In only a few years Monique has built up a dynamic career as a much sought after bassist in the bluesscene. Her musical loves are soul, boogie woogie and especially blues! She got known for her no-nonsense way of playing while always smiling along, which is probably why they named her the Mona Lisa of the Blues.Based in Holland, she has toured through Europe and the United States playing with many of her favourite blues guys. To name some, she toured with John Primer, Nick Holt, Sam 'Bluzman' Taylor, Nico Wayne Toussaint and Tommy McCracken. Also was she honoured to do several gigs with T-Model Ford while being the rhythm section with the legendary Sam Carr, down at the famous juke joint 'Reds' in Clarksdale, Mississippi. But her main honourable experience was when she had the change to play with her great inspiration Magic Slim. This was followed by other great names that added her wealth of experience like Steve 'Big Man' Clayton, Jake Walker and, during her tours in the States, Super Chickan, Bob Lohr, Arthur Williams and many others. She totally enjoyed playing at the great bluesclub The Zoobar in Lincoln, Nebraska, at BB's Blues 'n Soups in St. Louis and at the amazing jukejoint 'Wild Bills' in Memphis and several clubs in Mississippi and Chicago. Yep, Monique can be cought playing her bass anywhere!For several years she played with Little Boogie Boy and can be heard both on his CD 'In case you've got the blues' and his and Nick Holts CD 'We do it for the blues'. Since 2003 she was proud to be the steady member of Mr Boogie Woogie's Firesweep Bluesband, who recently has been chosen Best European Blues Pianist. They can be heard on their CD 'Live at the Duke' and toured both Europe and the States. After 6 fantastic years with mr Boogie Woogie Monique chose to go back to her other musical roots, which is playing bass behind gitarists. Therefor she can be heard today in both 'Fat Harry & the Fuzzy Licks' and the 'Robbert Fossen Bluesband'. But also she is proud to say that she can be caught playing in her own band 'Moniques Bluesselection'. For these shows she selects her favorite and well-qualified bluesmusicians to play her favourite selection of blues!
