Hazel Turnock & The Screaming Cockroaches

I remember when I was 13, and I had the good fortune to join my first band. It was a much needed cathsrsis for a girl who did not feel at home with the popular kids, talking about clothes, or playing sport ; far from making the gawky teen that I was feel cool, beautiful, or any less wierd, when I was performing and writing songs these imperfections became badges of honour ; fuel for my creations! Since then I have had many colourful experiences in numerous bands - I am grateful to have played with some marvelous and ineresting acts - both signed and unsigned, including the 5678s, The Subways, The Flesh Happening, Edward Tudor Pole, The Eighties Matchbox Beeline Disaster, The Trailer Trash Orchestra, The Freak 4, and John Otway (to name but a few), courted record companies, played some ledgendary venues, recorded a pleathora of masterpeices and monstrocities, and vomited in a selection of exiting locations! My aim always used to be to become "Rich-and-famous". Over time my aspirations have changed - it has taken me a while to re-discover why I enjoyed doing the music thing in the first place : because it makes me feel good. More than that, it makes me feel good about being me - and if along the line somone wants to pay me large amounts of money for that pleasure than fine, but I am not about to start wearing tastful clothes and writing dull love songs in the hopes of this ever happening. These days my simple wish is to produce and perform music that turns me on. And if one day you come to one of my shows then I hope that it turns you on as well! But if not, well, heckling is also welcome, although as a performer and self confessed attention seeker the one thing which I cannot abide is indifference. -Hazel T JAMER design
