About Me

Alex Sharkey, front man of Sussex based Pinkie has been writing songs of delicate beauty for many years. His words have always conjured up images of unrequited love and secret dreams, his tunes soar away from you with breathless speed. Although the sounds he creates rely on the bed-rock of orchestras of guitars, there is often the underlying rhythmic threat created by loops, samples and studio trickery.
Alex was one third of the band Brighter who released acoustic pop records on the iconic Sarah Records label throughout the nineties. Brighter regularly appeared in theNME charts and became firm favourites of John Peel. The mini-LP "Laurel" is still quoted as an influence by many bands. After the demise of Brighter, Alex and fellow Brighter member, Keris Howard, experimented with indie electro-pop, as Hal, releasing a successful EP, "Election Day" on the Vinyl Japan label. The EP was acknowledged as the perfect juxtaposition between Keris’ bitter-sweet lyrics and Alex’s charming arrangements. In 2001, Alex became part of the creative force behind Fosca on Shinkansen Records. Fosca became an ideal outlet for Alex’s musical creative force, the highlight of which was the acclaimed album ‘On Earth to Make the Numbers Up’.
It was time, however, for Alex to do things entirely his way, and, inspired by the anti-hero Pinkie Brown form Graham Greene’s novel "Brighton Rock", Pinkie came into being.
Pinkie received critical acclaim from the European underground music scene as well as the US indiepop/college rock market, for it's quintessential jangle guitar style, evoking eras from the Byrds to Another Sunny Day mixed with atmospheric melodic mood pieces. In 2001 the CDEP "My Little Experiment (PSRCD-011) was released on the Planting Seeds label. The release was well received with one reviewer stating: "seven great tracks with hooks that are so quietly awe-inspiring that they carry the song's emotions right into listeners with ease." Pinkie has really only just begun to bring you heart stopping music; picking up where the Sarah Records imprint left off and continuing the tradition with the timeless music that is the 2004 Pinkie release "Sharon fussy".
Escape into a world of soft sighing melodies and peaceful harmonies. "Sharon Fussy" takes you there with soothing strings, delightful arpeggios, and tranquil key arrangements that loft and swirl, sending you off into the waters off England's southern shore. The grey sacred English mornings wrap you up in a comforting blanket, pining for love and reconciliation, a must have for healing the broken hearted.
