About me:
I'm in school working toward a BA in Music (as well as a certificate in writing) with my main instrument being classical guitar. I'm also taking secondary applied jazz guitar this current, Fall '08, semester. My hometown is San Luis Obispo, California but for now I'm in St Louis, Missouri.

What am I doing now?
Right now I'm working on the intro to Little Wing on licklibrary.com, practicing Etude 1 of Villa-Lobos, Recuerdos de la Alhambra by Tarrega, Bach's Bouree, Segovia scales and Tune-Up via my new jazz guitar instructor. I'm also trying my hand at haiku, learning the Japanese language (my heritage language), practicing piano, reading my Aunt Kiyo's award winning book "Dandelion Through the Crack", reading Aunt Trudy's translations of my grandfather's haiku, tanka, and senryu, as well as reading my grandfather's diary that my Cousin Mike translated.

My Gear:
Cordoba student classical guitar, Epiphone Joe Pass, American Fender Straat, a nylon-stringed Ibanez, Seagull acoustic, and also a Johnson dobro. I use Garage Band to record for now. I love my MacBook Pro with Paralells Desktop.

Favourite Band(s) / Artist(s):
Xuefei Yang, Julia Crow, Susan Tedeschi, SRV, Hendrix, Freddie King. I have more favorites but these are who I've been listening to lately.

Favourite Musical Genres:
Latino guitar, blues guitar, jazz guitar, classical guitar, flamenco guitar

Favourite Interests:
Guitar, song writing, music theory/composition, photography, the gym, traveling, running on the beach when one's available, frozen yogurt, action-comedy-romance movies once every ten blue moons, and listening to good live music (with guitar of course!) :)

Muscle Memory

The new jazz instructor I'm studying under this semester stresses muscle memory for scales, etc. I'm finding it to be a pretty good technique actually. He says if you practice a scale 21 times in a ro...

Transylvanian Halloween Critique

Of course it was great as expected at SLSO. Conductor McGegan is incredible! My classical guitar instructor commented his conducting is more like dancing and I couldn't agree more. He also picks out b...

my grandfathers journal entries

It's really incredible, moving, to read my grandfather's journal. 180 pages long, it has been translated from Japanese to English by my Cousin Mike. Like my award-winning aunt, her father was a fantas...

My aunt Kiyo published a book that includes my grandfather's haiku at the beginning of each chapter. I'm so excited for my aunt. Here's a few awards she received:Sacramento County Historical Society, ...

this morning’s earthquake in st louis

Being a Californian, I wasn't surprised when it hit because I had always heard Missouri was long overdue for the big one. I'd have to say it topped all the tremors I felt in Cali personally. My cukoo ...

Thibault Cauvin

What a riot! Black pin stripe pants, white silk shirt with prints, reddish-brown boots, great pianist type facial expressions, and speed lightening fingers. The place was not filled as he is not well-...

Lilly Ashfar

I think Lilly Ashfar is a great performer although I will admit I like Xuefei Yang far exceedingly better. Lilly Ashfar had some audience members give a standing ovation but not even one quarter of th...

Conductor Nicholas McGegan

I went to the St Louis Symphony two weekends in a row, Jan 13 and Jan 18. McGegan is my favorite conductor to date. He is lively, energetic, a great dancer :). I love his choice of compositions, compo...

Cavatina Duo

The Cavatina Duo was absolutely amazing. Husband and wife, Denis Azabagic and Eugenia Moliner, on guitar and flute dazzled the audience with 20th Century pieces. I felt they were all very choice selec...

The Project

Awesome trio that we were fortunate to have here in St Louis from New York. To top it off, it was a free performance with 3 different groups. But I have chosen to discuss The Project because they gave...
