SOMETHING ABOUT ME
Alena Kortis' first single "Wanna Show You", infused with hip-hop and latin rhythm makes you want to dance. The song is about a young woman and man who catch each other in passing and fantasize on how they can show each other how to love. This fascination is the impetus to a song that is both romantic and sensual at the same time. Born January 3, 1984 in the Slovak Republic, Alena experienced growing up close to the nature in a little village surrounded by beautiful mountains of Slovakia. Moving to Germany at the age of five she was first introduced to music while attending grammar school where she began to study the piano and keyboard. Following this experience Alena began to practice her vocals independently. After attending "The Gymnazium High School" in Bingen - Germany, Alena returned to Slovakia with her family in 1996 to continue her journey in the musical world. Before this could begin she had to learn the Slovak language, being her primary language was German. Learning the Slovak language came easy to her. While in Slovakia Alena was given the opportunity to record at a professional music studio where she recorded two songs by " Celine Dion" ( Think Twice and Power of Love ), recalling this experience as "motivation" to pursue her career. 1998 brought to Alena the chance to learn playing the Soprano Saxophone. Her brother being her tutor gave her the final guidance and in just six months preparing her for the talent auditions at the private Conservatory of "Dezider Kardos". After mastering the Saxophone in no time at all, Alena was accepted into the Conservatory at the age of fourteen. There is where she developed and mastered many of her musical talents. Alena with her brother formed the group "Duo Kortis" in 1998 recording her first instrumental album. Although this album was never released, Alena was filled with more passion than ever to pursue her dream of releasing her own album. Thus bringing "Duo Kortis" the opportunity in 1999 to be part of production for a few chosen songs on a debut album titled "Usmev V Zialy" by singer songwriter Jan Nalez. While contributing to this album Alena and her brother displayed their musical talents thru their unique Saxophone solos. Continuing her music education at the Conservatory of Dezidera Kardosa in Toplocany, Alena practiced the saxophone under the guidance of professors Mgr. Jaroslav Cervenka (founder, member of several jazz bands in Slovakia) and Gunter Koci (professional saxophone performer, multi-instrumentalist and lead saxophonist of the famous Big Band-Gustav Brom Big Band in the Czech Republic). Graduating with a professional degree majoring in Saxophone Performance, Music History and Music Theory, Alena focused her style of saxophone on the genre of smooth jazz being influenced by contemporary saxophone players such as Dave Koz, Kenny G., and Candy Dulfer. At this time Alena began traveling to the United States of America to visit her father, knowing the U.S.A. to have an enormous amount of opportunity to further her music career. In 2005, writing her own lyrics, Alena recorded her first single "Wanna Show You" a latin hip-hop production recorded and produced at JK Records Studio. Alena with her brother Jan dedicated a website to all Eastern European musicians from Czech and Slovakia named "MyMusic.sk" www.mymusic.sk which promotes and supports bands and artists from any genre or country. At the beginning of 2006 Alena and her brother founded an independent label named "Kortis Records" along with the production company "JK Records" to pursue their success in the music business. Also having started their own record label "Kortis Records", Alena was the first musician to be signed, followed by English-Latin rapper "Ricky Boy" (Ricardo Carignan) and the group "Da Limelite Boiz". 2006 also brought Alena the opportunity to film her first music video (on FILM: 35mm HQ) for "Wanna Show You" on location in Hollywood / Highland. The video "Wanna Show You" single CD release production was funded by their own label "Kortis Records" and directed by Alan Calzatti (who also directed videos for Nsync, Britney Spears, and other famous pop stars) and filmed by Jake Akuna. Alena is currently preparing for her ENHANCED CD SINGLE - WANNA SHOW YOU to be released by the end of this summer. While working with several new music artists, including her signed rapper and song writer "Ricky Boy", who is featured on her first single "Wanna Show You", and artist / rapper "Reddoe" from the group "Da Limelite Boiz" also being featured on her remixed version of her first single "Wanna Show You", Alena is constantly developing her style and experience in today's music world. With music continuing to play an important role in her life, Alena has dedicated her heart and soul to creating music for the world to enjoy.
