About Me

What can I say about myself? I'm an enigma, a riddle, a person who refuses to be categorized and defined. I work as an audiologist/hearing specialist, which mainly involves waiting on old people all day (and the occasional bratty kid) to get them to hear better. In my work setting, I'm basically an indentured servant slaving away to make doctors wealthier (hey, it pays my bills). This job doesn't define me as a person (it's only how I kill eight hours a day), and I have so many other interests. I try not to take life or myself too seriously, and I constantly strive to find the humor and absurdity in almost every situation.I live in Austin, Texas with my wife, but my never-ending wanderlust compels us to travel almost constantly. Exploring new places is what I love to do best, but unfortunately I couldn't find a job as a full-time, wandering man-of-leisure. I do consider myself a very accepting, non-judgmental person, and I'm laid back and try to go with the flow... I simply have no time for zealots, bigots, or other assorted jerks. Hey, I just do my part everyday to piss-off the right-wing, conservative establishment!

Television:

South Park, Adult Swim on Cartoon Network (Family Guys rules!), No Reservations with Anthony Bourdain, the Daily Show, The Office, Scrubs, Ghost Hunters, Family Business, Ghost Whisperer (hey, Jennifer Love Hewitt is hot), anything on the History Channel or Discovery (Mythbusters), Penn and Teller's Bullshit, The L Word, Dexter, Real Time with Bill Maher, and The Colbert Report. If I'm up and not able to sleep, I keep up with the world by watching CNN...

Books:

Anything by Harry Turtledove, especially the Great War series, all of the Vampire books by Anne Rice, Kurt Vonnegut, especially Galapagos and Mother Night, The Art of Happiness by the Dalai Lama, the Anita Blake novels by Laurell K. Hamilton, and anything dealing with alternate history or the Civil War

Heroes:

No one will ever know his name, but the lone man in China who stood up to a column of tanks as they were going to Tianamen Square in 1989 - I get tears thinking about his incredible bravery in the face of death and tyranny. Also, any parent of a special needs child who raises that child with compassion and dignity. Heroism happens everyday - we just have to open our eyes and see it.
