I am here for Friends

About Me

Nowadays, you're more likely to find me on my blog: www.scrabblecrush.blogspot.comHelp Tina get to the Rocky River Scrabble Tournament!
The good: High-energy but not high strung. Kind. Off-the-wall, often twisted sense of humor. Spontaneous. Wearer of my heart on my sleeve. I am lucky to have a lot of people who I can really call close friends. Without them, I am simply not as strong.
The bad: Sometimes too impulsive. Occasionally bossy (or strong maternal instinct...whichever). Stubborn. I tend to overuse parentheses (a lot).
Paralegal (progressive, consumer protection work). Nighttime graduate student in Social Work. (I'm going to be a counselor! It's my calling!!)
Four AWESOME kids (counting a teen-aged sister I have custody of). Professional firefighter/Army reservist husband. (Yes, I know...those are two kick-ass costumes!!)
Talk with me about: the ACLU (I've been known to sit on the board of directors for WV), women's rights, human rights, and lots more. Open your mind...and we'll talk.
I have traveled great distances to experience spectacular fireworks displays, thrilling roller coaster rides, and the chance to sit down and play Scrabble for an entire weekend. These are three of my favorite things. I'm also becoming increasingly-addicted to shrimp & Chinese vegetables and funny cat videos on YouTube.

My Interests

SCRABBLE, ACLU, photography, Reiki, yoga, fireworks, women's rights, human rights, Right to Choose (pro choice), roller coasters, dodgeball, genealogy, poker, reading, travel, weight training, running, social justice, solidarity, equality. In case you didn't already notice it, here's a little taste of the things I'm interested in: ..

I'd like to meet:

Like-minded (and open-minded) people to share ideas with.
People who are down-to-earth, real, and open.
Strong, independent women who don't confuse the words "strong" and "bitch." Don't get me wrong...sometimes a strong woman can be a bitch...but you don't have to be a bitch to be strong. Know what I mean?
Progressive men who appreciate strong, independent women.
Religious persons who still understand the need for the separation of church and state to ensure our continued freedom of religion.
People who understand that, for the flag to really mean what you want it to mean, your fellow citizens must be allowed to burn it in protest.
People who believe love between two people should be the primary requisite for marriage and family.
Think I'm unpatriotic? Shove it. Just because I want to make our country better doesn't mean I'm not a patriot.
Obviously, I'm not interested in dating since I am happily-married to a great guy with whom I raise a great big, crazy family. He's second from the left:

Deep Thoughts

Today I was surprised to see a blimp floating in the air above Charleston.  I'm not sure why it was here but it reminded me of some things. Once, as I got out of my car, a stranger said to me, "H...

For my fellow Texans...and anyone else who wants a laugh

The older of my two brothers, Cliff, sent me this.  He was born in Texas and I was partially-raised (middle school and high school) there.  Be sure to read all three judges' entries.  A...

When I had to attend an ACLU board meeting at Twin Falls State Park on Saturday, Eric went with me.  On the way back, we went sans radio/CD player and just talked.  (For some more background...

What to say?

There's no room for funny tonight or personal complaining.  In fact, what happened today at Virginia Tech seems too complicated and suffocatingly painful to write about directly.  I couldn't...
