Labkids, now three deep, mixed and distributed three mix tapes, the first simply titled Labkids, followed by Orgees Radio Live, and Squares. From the generated buzz, Labkids had growing recognition and were interviewed for the "19 minute show," on KSYM San Antonio 90.1 FM. This frequently replayed interview gained the Labkids a following in the hip-hop underground and the trio's beats and reputation were know by anyone deep in the hip-hop circuit during the Wacky's open mic battles.
During the fall of 2000, the trio relocated to Carbondale, Illinois to record, and pursue school and other interests. By the time 2001 rolled around Labkids as a crew were known by area djs primarily because of the many gigs DJ Bones McCoy was playing and by all of the talking he did. From house parties, to frat parties, to raves, and even outside on the strip, Labkids played it all. By a strange turn of events in 2001, Labkids were invited to host and produce a show on local radio station, WDBX Carbondale 91.1 FM . The three were immediately recognized for their talent in the studio, and Station Manager Brian R. Powell offered the Labkids a regular slot which soon after became Labkids Radio (Saturdays @ Midnite). The radio show became a sort of headquarters and meeting ground for several folks who would eventually become good friends and coconspirators such as Iron Will (later violently initiated into Labkids), So.Ill.Tekno, Adam Jensen, DJ YT (violent initiation pending), Dillon (also violently initiated into Labkids), and DJ Aimm.In February of 2002, the Labkids hosted the first of a series of "lounge nights" at The Space in Carbondale, in the Gallery HQ building. The following summer Labkids hosted their nights at Booby's Beergarden on the Strip featuring Beats by Dillon and DJ YT. The Labkids have since been hosting art shows, when and wherever they can, while maintaining their radio show. High school friend and longtime cohort to Darby, Rob G. began hosting a sister radio show by the same name on KRTU San Antonio 91.7 FM (Sundays @ Midnite).Darby has since moved back to San Antonio and hosts the show with Roberto and your 2005 3rd Place DMC Champ, DJ Donnie Dee. Labkids has released a trio of mixed cds for all to enjoy, "You Are Here," co produced and mixed by DJ Grial, "You Are Here, Volume 2.13," produced by Darby and Paris, and most recently and currently available, Music for Advanced Listeners Vol. 1, mixed by Darby.Labkids is more than just beats. Labkids has been designing all manner of stuff, from flyers and t-shirts, to furniture and the occasional ethnic restaurant. (Tam!
