Sounds Like: what's more interesting than what it sounds like (thermin and ben franklin's glass armonica) is the history of the saw. it's a bavarian tradition from longLong ago. eventually, it comes to the US and is part of the vaudville stage tradition.
i always find it endearing when folks tell me: "an old guy down the street from me when i was growing up use to play the saw" or "i saw that on pbs once."
and perhaps this is a point of interest: my german last name, Holtschlag, breaks down to holt ="holz" = wood + schlag = "to hit". in colloquial german, i am told, my last name translates to "woodcutter" or "a clearing in the woods".
((i just might be a cartoon.))
