DJ PHOX INTERNATIONAL CLUB KING Who is DJ PHOX? Not your average DJ. For over 8 years DJ PHOX has been traveling around the world, DJing from Las Vegas to Miami to Korea to Italy. From opening special events in Asia to private parties in the U.A.E. to resident DJ in Italy, there isn’t a party to big or too small for this INTERNATIONAL DJ. But building a successful INTERNATIONAL status isn’t easy spinning one genre of music. DJ PHOX has separated himself from other DJs by mastering in mixing the best Hip-Hop, R&B, Salsa, Merengue, Bachata, Reggae, Reggaeton, Old School, and House. Being this DIVERSE and KNOWLEDGABLE in this many genres of music is one thing, but knowing how to use these “tools” to rock events all over the world is another thing that took years for DJ PHOX to develop.Born Nathaniel L. Seeney, on August 15th 1981, in Fayetteville, NC. He was raised by his mother and stepfather in Fayetteville and spent countless summers in Baltimore with his grandmother, cousins, aunts, uncles and closest friends. When asked, how he became so diverse with his music selection, he says, “It mostly comes from me growing up and being around friends and family who was a mix of Black, White, Latino, Cruzan, and Jamaican nationalities. It had a direct influence on me daily.” At the end of his first year of college at NC A&T State University, DJ PHOX met a radio DJ by the name of Teo Rodriquez who was a club owner, and one of Fayetteville’s top club promoters. DJ PHOX got a spot in one of his clubs called The Pavilion; at the time it was the #1 Latin club in Fayetteville. Here, DJ PHOX began to develop the essential skills that became his foundation. One year went by and DJ PHOX had joined the Air Force and was stationed in Las Vegas. With his signing bonus, DJ PHOX bought a pair of American Dj Pro Scratch CDJs and a 3-channel mixer. Everyday after work he would practice those techniques that he once learned back home. “After a while, word got around the that I was a DJ and people started asking me to DJ at parties and picnics.” DJ PHOX stayed busy with house parties, after-parties, and official functions for the Air Force. Once he turned 21, DJ PHOX started to hit the club scene in Las Vegas, where he often worked with DJ Hollywood (LV), DJ Jose (LV), DJ Walter (LV), DJ Leo (LV), and DJ Panic (LV). “In 2002, I worked in a Latin club called El Matador with DJ Walter. We were the ONLY club in Las Vegas at the time that played Reggaeton from Puerto Rico (Daddy Yankee, Wisin y Yandel, The Noise, Playero etc.) Dj’s was not playing it until they came to our club and heard us playing it and they saw the effect it had on the crowd.” DJ PHOX spent 4 years in Las Vegas. During that time Steve Davidovici, part owner of Pure Management Group, employed him at Club Bikinis inside the RIO Hotel and Casino. PMG is the #1 competitor in nightclubs in Las Vegas to this day. DJ PHOX was a resident DJ of Club Bikinis. Here DJ PHOX was spinning Latin on Saturday nights and Hip-Hop/R&B and Latin on Sunday nights. Club Bikinis opened up doors to more clubs and more events around Las Vegas on-the-strip and off-the-strip to include: The Puerto Rican Day Parade, SRO (now Club 702), Gold Coast Showroom (Gold Coast Casino), and Escapate (Event Center) just to name a few. “I was on my way to the top in Vegas. I had things going good for me there. Then the Air Force sent me to Korea…I didn’t want to go, but I had to go.” Moving to S. Korea would be one of the best things that could have happen for DJ PHOX whether he know it or not… With the experience of DJing in Las Vegas behind him, and his future ahead of him, DJ PHOX began pursuing a new plan of attack that very few DJs will have the opportunity to do. For the next 3 years DJ PHOX would use the Air Force to move him around the world, which provided the opportunity for him to DJ not only in the United States but also INTERNATIONALLY all over the world. Since then, DJ PHOX has played in clubs and hosted parties in S. Korea, Turkey, U.A.E., England, Spain, Slovenia, Croatia, and Italy; not to mention various cities within the United States including Dallas, Miami, New York, and the Virgin Islands. Not matter what city, state, or country he is in, or what language his audience speaks, DJ PHOX has been able to satisfy his audience. “Its hard walking into a club, let alone a different country, and having people dancing and having the time of their life while you DJ and they don’t even speak your language.” When asked how do you know what to play from country to country or even from state to state, he says, “You have to read your crowd because each crowd is different and really know your music. How I usually begin my set is with familiar hits with high energy that everybody knows. Then once you have the crowd, you can make them dance to anything.” Nowadays, DJ PHOX lives in Italy. He stays busy with regular gigs alternating between Italy, Slovenia and Croatia. He works hard everyday at organizing and promoting parties, promoting himself, building his fan base, and perfecting his skills on the 1s and 2s.
