About Me

Mike Hiltz's first loves are jangly guitars and pop rock trios - in that order. However, Hiltz's skills have largely been employed as bassist for many of eastern Canada's premier and award winning artists. Mike Hiltz's career as a sideman has so far found him touring and recording with acts including The Irish Descendants, Kilt, Andrea England, Matt Anderson, Dave Gunning , Steven Bowers , George Canyon and Sons of Maxwell .

Recent years have found Mike laying down his bass in favour of his trusty Martin D35 and his 12 string Danelctro to perform his own material.

New Songs

I've just posted two freshly demo'd, not so freshly written songs. "Jackie O" is a fairly pedestrian attempt at a "There She Goes" styled, cute song. I've always felt that "There She Goes" is a ...

Cool Tapes

I've only got a cassette player in my car. As a result, I've had a blast revisiting a bag of old tapes I dug out. Here are my favourite finds so far: The Police - Synchronicity, Faron Young - Greatest...

Chinois

So I just flew in from China and, man, are my arms killing me!. Rather than recount my tales in a narrative, I'd like to share random thoughts as they occur to me. A sort of thought collage, if you wi...

Picture this: I'm loading my gear into the Fife & Drum on Friday and who's the first person I see? Ben Mulroney of course. Mirrored sunglasses. Cute little sweater suit. Oi. Here's a tidbit: Ben w...
