Radio Jane

If you're not careful you'll end up in a song.....

About Me

Well, I am truly a Nova Scotian, born in Springhill (Ann Murray and coal mines) then moved to Cape Breton Island, where I spent most of my childhood. Travelled across Canada later on and finally settled, for now, in Halifax. So I guess these are all stories that have sprung from that. Journal entries made in times long past, still find there way into songs years later. My music is me, if there's a flat note or a wrong chord, thats me. Sometimes Im down... so if that translates into the music then you've just gotten to know me a little better. I am not a perfectionist, Im human.Playing with Shaun, Garett, James and Sam has been and continues to be an increadible experience as they bring their own personality to the song and it becomes ours, collectively. And co-writing with the fabulous Andrea Curry is always so much fun as we bounce ideas off eachother and agree if we are not laughing, its time to stop. And none of these songs would have materialized without inspiring and fantastic conversations with Christina.Radio Jane is pure, fiction, at times, but always full of questions.

My Interests

Music:

Band Members: Radio Jane, vocals, keys Sam Nijjar, arrangements/production/drums/bass/keys/recorder
Influences: Well, its hard to nail down exactly which of the many musical artists that have inspired me in wiritng and performing. I think I've probably drawn from the humor in Sarah Slean's lyrics, as well as the comfort that there is another 'girl with a piano instead of a guitar' out there. I listen to Tori Amos and appricate that her music is linear, the stories don't always fit together into nice little packages. I am encouraged by the simplicty of the work done by Ani Difranco and Cat Power, somtimes less is more. Jazz artists like Dinah Washington have given me permission to experiement with non traditional song stucture (not every song Has to have a chorus) and chord progression... And Ron Sexsmith reminds me that people still enjoy being sung softly to sleep....
Type of Label: None
