1986: When Chiquita Ashley's one-year-old daughter walked over to the stereo, said "heyyy!" and started snapping her fingers to Michael Jackson's "Billy Jean"; she knew that she had a star on her hands…
A one-woman riot, LadyTwist (born SheRico Jones) wrote and recorded her first demo tape at the age of 10. Equipped with only a karaoke machine, a CD of jazz instrumentals and a clear vision; this exceptionally gifted scholar was born to be an entertainer. Her influences include early 90's artists Another Bad Creation and Kris Kross and later Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, Da Brat, Eminem and Ludacris.
Her underground releases are numerous and include: the self-fulfilling prophecy "Shorty's Gonna Make it" (1996), "My World" (1998), "Lyrikally Yourz" (2000) and her first 'mainstream' production "The Demotape" (2005). The latter premieres her production skills on tracks such as "Hard 2 Get", "Watch This" and "Wrong Bitch" as well as production by her nephew, up-and-coming artist/producer Lil' Nut, on "Chill Music" and "Signs".
Having always "straddled the fence" between the image of "Daddy's little girl" and the neighborhood "Dope-girl" (opposed to "Dope-boy"), the 22 year-old has had more than enough experiences to create a masterpiece that people from all walks of life can identify with. A Journalism student, LadyTwist has the uncanny ability to tell a riveting story about literally anything while maintaining a consistent rhyming pattern. Thereby her latest release "The Demotape 2" is LadyTwist's most creative, thought-provoking and musically ingenious creation to date.
LadyTwist visits so many themes in "The Demotape 2" that the lyrical storyteller's creativity could be misdiagnosed as bipolarity. She covers everything from the street life and encouraging her fans to "Wrap it up", to anger management in the dramatic ballad "Control", exploits the stereotype of 'ghetto girls' through the hilariously classic character Shaquaiquai (played by LadyTwist herself) and vents her frustrations in the controversially-violent rant "7 Bullets".
Twizzle (as she's affectionately called by fans) has a distinct and attention-grabbing style that is guaranteed to leave you laughing, impressed, empathetic and/or otherwise amused or your money back! From jaw-dropping metaphors and punch lines to quick-witted and hysterical skits, you'll never get bored when LadyTwist is "in the building".
