As the undisputed king of the Birmingham house scene. Nowhere else mattered, Demon was the only place to be seen.Week after week, people turned up in their masses to wave their hands in the air till the sun came up over the truly unique garden terrace.Where were you, when from out of the blue Erick Morillo and Fergie turned up & turned it on, on an unforgettable summers night? (taken from Demon biog.)One of the key players behind the Demon night is resident DJ and promoter, Shafe."...the success of the night, mainly revolves around the music policy, and we were the only club that dared to do something different back then, mixing up the genres, playing progressive, into electro, a bit of tribal or Chicago house, when most of the other clubs in town were sticking to funky vocal house and speed garage."Shafe first made his mark on the club scene though, back in 1997, when he was just 19 years old. A friend of his was starting a new night at Birminghams legendary Que Club and needed help with the promotion. Shafe had already been DJing at friends partys and a few small bars, but nothing like this."...the London trade sound was massive at the time. We booked Steve Thomas and the Sharp boys to play, on about the third night, and I remember one of them asking if we could get their mate Tony in when I got to the front door I realised it was actually Tony De Vit, who was one of the biggest DJs in the world at the time."Around a year later, Shafe had already established himself and was one of just a few DJs playing regularly at both of Birminghams superclubs, GodsKitchen & Sundissential, where he soon became one of the main resident tour DJs, playing alongside Sasha, Steve Lawler, Seb Fontaine, Tall Paul, Pete Tong, Carl Cox, Lottie, Yousef & Fergie, to name just a few.Even though he was playing out regularly at various clubs, his urge was always to DJ worldwide, so Shafe used some of his close contacts & friends in the industry and landed a job for MTV Europe, based out in Ibiza, where he promoted & played at the MTV Ibiza club nights & Festival. Another perk of the job included a weekly residency in Edens funky back room where he also booked the Djs.
