Right........About Me!!!
Ok.....My name is Dougie (not Douglas! well....it is but I hate it! lol "Jade!!!!!") or Doug. Other ppl know me as Oneleggedjockey. And yes! I am named after the shop lol.
I was brought into this world on the 29th April 1980 in St Mary's Hospital, Portsmouth, Hampshire, UK, to my mother Pauline and my father Jeff. I lived in Paulsgrove for about 6 months before descending to Leigh Park until the princely age of 16. During my time in Leigh Park, I found love, found some amazing friends (most of which I am very very fortunate to still know......in no particular order: Lee, Martin, Nathan, Dan (who I live with now), Jason (who I live with now too) and to an extent Kevin.), and discovered the true me. I am the middle of two brothers, Shaun (2 yrs 9 months older) and Davey (9 years younger) but I dont speak to Shaun much. Davey is a joint director in Symposium of Music. Shaun is a successful labourer/tradesmen and Davey is into pretty much everything and does some excellent volunteer work for the Leigh Park Community. My father left us when I was 8 years old, and he was swiftly (in hindsight, im not suprised because my mother fell out of love with my father not long after I was born) replaced with my step-dad (although I regard him now as my real dad and always will) Dave. My mum Pauline is a nurse (of some description lol) and supervises nurses in care homes etc. My mum is an inspiration to me and we are very close, although not in a mother/son way. We have a friendship above anything. My step-dad is also an inspiration and you can guarantee that if you think you've seen the world, he's seen more! Yet he is always very humble with it and will always be if anything honest and objective with you. He has helped me through the hard times and has offered excellent advice, although I choose not to listen to my detriment!
I found friendship with lots of people while at school, but due to life being what it is, we have parted company. Names some people will recognise are Graham, Deano, Danny (both Chandler and Hayward, but its no secret why I dont speak to Danny Hayward anymore!) and Moley (Mark)). I know that Deano has joined the Navy and is now living in Scotland and I wish him all the best in his career. Anyway.....I reach 16 and decide against being my (so far) life long dream of being a Policeman and decide to join the Royal Navy (:S). I headed off on the 24th February to Plymouth and picked up on what was to be an adventurous, sometimes dangerous yet most of all enlightening 4 years of my life. I served on HMS Birmingham and HMS Atherstone, earning the NATO General Service Medal for ordance disposal in the Aegaen Sea off the coast of Italy and also did a tour of the Persian Gulf. I met my to be (and now ex!!!) wife Kathryn whilst at HMS Raleigh and we married in the 6th March 1999 after being together for just under 2 years. She was 6 years my senior. Kathryn taught me many things, but most of all she taught me to grab life by the balls and give it a good tug! After my stint in the Persian Gulf, I came back to a divorce (brought on by moi) and a new start. This is when I learn't to be a flirt, a downright dirty bastard (lol) but most of all I learn't how to care about ppl deeply and how to earn respect from my peers. We split amicably (although all she left me was a Yellow Pages and a Christmas Pudding lol) and she went on her jolly way to Pristina to serve what was to be her penultimate deployment in the Royal Navy.
Whilst I was bombing around Portsmouth finding myself again, I met some crazy and some downright nasty ppl. Thankfully the nasty ppl have fallen by the wayside, and I strengthened my friendship with my very close friends just that little bit more to seal them for life. I spent a shitload of money, notched up quite a few conquests and left the RN on the 2nd November. This was in hindsight both a bold move and a foolish one. I was out of work (although through choice!!!) until the January when I went to work at sunny HMS Collingwood as a Fleetwork Trainer Voice Operator (bit long a title, I know!!!). I was paid £140 a week and had to walk 40 miles a week to get to work and back :S. It made me realise how you have to start at the bottom to achieve anything and that its never an easy ride to reach the top. Whilst at HMS Collingwood, I was shown an advert for a job in the MoD working communications. A stab in the dark thought I, so I applied....got an interview....got the job!!!! I went to work for the MoD, went to work in London after 3 1/2 years in Portsmouth Dockyard, and returned to Portsmouth Dockyard in November. During 2001-2005 I moved 13 times and had a bit of a rough emotional ride. I lived with some cracking friends and had some of the best parties Pompey has ever known!!! For those who remember them....MayDay Madness and MayDay Madness the second coming!!! Bloody superb :D Anyways, I met and split up with Becca, spent alot of time dashing backwards and forwards to London and Tangmere to spend time with her and realised (again, after my marriage fuck up) that relationships need work and should not be taken for granted. Since then, I have been single, although there have been many a time I was close, and are at the moment. Although I would love to be in a relationship, its a two way process and I am scared of getting hurt. Its something which will take time but I know that when the right girl comes along (is she already here?), it will be special.
So I sit here now, typing this, after a roller coaster couple of months. I have my business (Symposium of Music Promotions/SoM Records), a live band night coming up (Death By Stereo @ Portsmouth's The Lounge) and I have an amazing set of friends around me which I know will be there forever. Deep down I know I am one of the luckiest fuckers around! I will keep updating this as time goes on, but for now, thats it. I must mention my girl Jade though. She is a special special person to me and I love her with all my heart! Official :-D
anyways, i'll leave it at that for a bit, until next time ppl!!!!
Increase the Peace,
Doogz
