Blaqwata's artistic journey began on his 2nd birthday, after numerous 3ft. High murals on his parents wall. Recognizing his potential, they invested in art materials to feed his creativity. "Never in my life have i not been an artist!" Blaq explains, "Its like I was doing finger paintings in the womb." But it wasn't until he was 4 years old that he set out to be an artist. Early elementary, after watching every disney film and reading many comic books, he realized that someone was paid to do the art. Blaq then recruited the top artist at school, and like voltron they came together and formed n.d.c (new drawing crew). Together, the young entrepreneurs set out to make a reputation for themselves, and earn a little extra for the latest X-men comics. They took pride in being able to draw posters of any character, from Spiderman to Ninja Turtles. They also had there own line of comics which they sold photo copies at the student book store. N.D.C. Crumbled upon entering junior high school, the zoning districts, divided and conquered their business ventureNot to be discouraged, Blaq quickly stepped up his craft and began doing realistic portraits . During his time in college he began receiving commercial projects, well on his way to becoming an illustrator, or background painter for animation. But the desire to express his own emotions and create his own characters was too strong, around that time he met fellow artist Jackson Collins at Venice Beach. "Jackson truly opened my eyes he told me the most profound statement, that i will never forget, he was selling his art on the beach, and his wife and son were right next to him. He said "I got a degree, but what kind of life would I have if I was locked away in a office all day, he said I can make my living and still see my son's 1st steps, with that said commercial projects took a back seat for his passion, Blaq creates from his heart. His art represents the essence of the Blaq experience. Water is the essence of sustaining all life. Black is the essence of all colors. Blaqwata is a metaphor for the black life, also being the definition of his last name it becomes evident his name was not a mistake. "all my images appear to me in dreams and I interpret them with the stroke of a brush, I feel similar to joseph from genesis". These life inspiring images keep recurring to him until he paints it out of his mind. His work is about metaphors, and his take on life. He aims to uplift, encourage, and stimulate his viewer's, and spiritually levitate his art to a higher mind state so that one can be levitated and walk on clouds.
