Hailing from Detroit, Michigan, Mark Da Spark is one of this city's strongest and most supportive voices for it's Hip Hop culture. Mark hosted his first radio show on CJAM (University of Windsor [Ontario, Canada]) where he "held it down" for a few years. He later joined Radio One's (now) WHTD (Detroit) as Mixshow Coordinator /"Mixer(Violator All-Star Dj)" for 6 years. During this time he launched/hosted "Spark Afta Dark"-a segment dedicated to "real" Hip Hop!Mark Da Spark describes himself as "…mix of the Rhythm Kitchen mixed with The Hip Hop Shop and The Shelter!" "The Rhythm Kitchen to me was the place where Detroit Hip Hop was birthed," he shares. "This is where Maurice Malone first got down. We used to hang outside the Rhythm Kitchen rhyming and sharing beats. When we didn't have money to get into the club, we just hung outside. It was cool. The Hip Hop Shop was what I considered to be 'Phase II'. It was one of the foundations for a lot of Detroit emcees. It was the place to see and experience the up and coming emcees.
