Biography
Next Station: previously titled Dark Horizon, are a 3-piece rock trio from the borders of Leeds and Bradford aged 15, led by twin brothers Mark and Chris, who swap duties on the lead guitar, bass and vocals throughout live sets, rounded out by Joe on the drums. They began their band in August 2005 and erupted in 2007.
Their live sets include storming tunes that rage with weighty guitar tones and incessant drumming, songs that have powerful intros, and end with great climaxes. After their live sets members of the public have commented on tightness of the band especially for their age and about how much they enjoyed the band’s performance.
With Nick Hodgson, Simon Rix and Peanut from the Kaiser Chiefs and Joe Sayers already listened to, and enjoyed, watch out for these guys in a venue near you. The band have played all around Leeds and are progressing in every shape and manner having been published in NME, Alive, Leeds Guide, Vibrations, No-TiTLE, The Guardian, The Yorkshire Evening Post and The Catholic Post!
Next Station: released their debut EP in April 2007. With track listings including My Expectations, What Are You Waiting For?, Then I’ll Say, Sense Of Direction, You Are Who You Are, Stand Still. The EP was produced and mixed by Mike Thrussel. All tracks written and performed by Next Station:
Next Station: are ready to release their second EP in November 2007 with three tracks recorded at Hall Place Recording Studio in Leeds, in October. Produced and mixed by Richard at Hall Place.
Next Station: use Fender and Epiphone Guitars, Marshall and Laney Amplifications, Pearl Drums, Zildjian Cymbals, and Drum Workshop Hardware.
Live Review
Monday 30th July - Next Station: Live at The New Roscoe
(w/ The Innuendos, The Rumour)
Next Station: are a striking three piece - striking because their dual frontmen Mark and Chris Wanzala-Ryan are identical twins. And each is as talented as the other, as they trade duties on guitar, bass and vocals throughout the set, while the equally talented Joe Cox rounds out the trio on drums.
They open their set with a storming rendition of 'My Expectations' with its cowbell thrashing intro and raw, heavy guitar tones, before moving seamlessly into 'This Is Entirely Your Fault'. This is an indie band who aren't afraid to wear their rockier influences on their sleeve - their sound definied by weighty guitar tones and incessant drumming.
The band blast through a set comprised entirely of their own material - particular highlights being 'You Are Who You Are' with its funky guitar riff, and 'Stand Still', a song that starts out understated but then builds to a powerful climax.
The band end their set with a couple of newer songs - one so new that it doesn't even have a title, but yet still sounds as polished as the others, and 'Dusty Staircase', a fast paced punky romp through Foo Fighters territory that stops off to pick up a couple of Muse-esque guitar solos on the way.
To think that the members of this band are all only 15 is positively frightening - they're already producing tightly crafted tunes, and they're only going to get better from here.
