Red Light Union formed in late 2005 when a young man by the name of Rich turned up on the doorstep of Nik, half naked, dishevelled and his hands covered in tomato sauce. Nik initially horrified and disturbed by what he had just witnessed, took Rich in and began restoring him to health. The first few weeks saw Rich remain in a room slowing removing all furniture until it was bare, all the while muttering indecipherably. Nik, fascinated by this unusual behaviour, set up a voice recorder in the room and began monitoring Rich's activity. He began to realise what he heard were not insane mutterings but in fact indecipherable melodic memories uncontrollably spewing from his mouth. Nik began to meticulously catalogue these melodies in an attempt to decipher them. He sort the help of nurse Em to help monitor Richard's behaviour. The only time Rich left his room was in the dead of night where he would scurry around the house collecting various items and taking them into his room. Nik only became aware of this when he couldn’t find the tomato sauce or the vacuum cleaner.
