Brandi S. A.K.A Jane Nithrow
Born 12/21/??
Once named Jane Doe, Miss Nithrow realized early in life, that the music industry is full of sound alikes and copycats. This understanding is what forced her to become independent of what is the acceptable norm and do her own thing. Her music is Brash, cocky and Full of a swagger that no 2? year old female rapper should have. Always a maverick, Jane Nithrow is a collage of her influences growing up and her passion to be different. (Marvin Gaye, Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Pattie Labelle, TLC, Earth Wind and Fire, Jodecee. basically anything on WBRU 95.5 on Sundays.). Always a lover of music, Miss Nithrow began at an early age trying to explore where her talents lied. I tried everything from singing groups, dance groups, I even tried to be a DJ. I went out and bought an entry level dj set up. I was pretty good at blending and scratching, but I dint really have anyone to teach me, so I moved on.
As a youngin, Nithrow began writing poetry as an outlet, but nothing was taken seriously. Until one day, a certain record by a certain producer changed her life. I was listening to BET and saw the Missy Elliot Hot Boys video for the first time. That beat was bananas, and I zoned out to the joint Timbo had put together. I wrote a rhyme to it and was like, damn this is kinda aight! The rest is history. Once the streets began to hear the young, then-named, Jane Doe spit, it was a wrap.
Now, one of the most sought after female writers and rappers north of NEW YORK, Jane Nithrow has everyone from Alicia keys, to RUFF RYDERS, and Half the staff at Sony Urban buzzing about her unique style, voice and most of all swagger. Nicknamed Start Over by her producer Mr.Marsalis of M.Leagues ENT LLC, for what she does to her competitors, Jane is the catalyst for female rappers to be able to remove the female label from their name and be on par with their male counterparts. Mr.Mrasalis recalls a situation where Hoods DVD was filming a new episode, and the reaction she got when she spit. We were in Worcester Mass; at a radio station filming a video for HOODS when the host asked her for a freestyle. The room was filled with about 16-17 male rappers, all waiting for a chance to rock, and talking amongst themselves. When she cracked the mic, it was dead silent. I mean you had guys itching to hate, and couldnt say a word. Not a whisper!. Its was crazy!
Crazy is the the word that Jane Nithrow hears a lot when people are describing her talents. She has caused some guys to rethink their own confidence level when they are exposed to her sometimes ferocious style. The swagger is amazing says Boston Radio Host, Peter Parker of WBOT (WILD 97.7). Its embarrassing to these guys how much better an emcee and writer she is than they are. Her peers arent female emcees. Its ALL emcees.
