Im a block away from Big
Im a few steps from Hova
Im mixed with MOP
But still I got a chip on my shoulder
Timing is everything. When Big passed, Jay kept the BK torch lit. When Jay called it quits, Romel Cummings, a.k.a. Brasco actually felt the changing of the guard. The exact moment: Hovas Fade to Black concert at Madison Square Garden. After that historic day, the slick-talking MC entered the booth with a renewed intensity, and became the confident, charismatic MC he is today. Brasco is the new generation: Hes New Brooklyn.
Growing up in Clinton Hills, Brasco, also called Bras and Sco, was heavily influenced by his neighbors, Jay and Big. He also gravitated toward all things flashy. So it was a sad day when his mom relocated the family to Brownsville. Fortunately, Bras personifies the best of both hoods, drawing from the harsh reality of Brownsville while adding his own fly guy twist. Brownsville is grimy but it made me who I am, and Id never take that back, Bras assures. Though his God-fearing mom tried to steer him to church, his best friend got a hold of him with his hustling ways. But again, Brasco has no regrets. It forced him to grow into the man you see today.
While getting money from his illegal lifestyle, Bras launched Carnegee Kingz, so named after Andrew Carnegie, a man he admires tremendously. Carnegie told you, Im going to be rich, he emphasizes. He started with nothing and made millions. I come from nothing, and through my songs, Im telling you what Im going to do. When you say Carnegee you put that dream forward, and when you do succeed you become a king.
Like the doors of the underworld opened easily for Sco, so too did the music industry. The laid back lyricist sent out his demo, which had high profile producers like Sanchez, 7 Aurelius and Kwame. Brasco was landed smack in the middle of a bidding war. Yet only Geffen/Interscope offered Bras the chance to exercise his true leadership skills. Brasco, as CEO of Carnegee Kingz, has always looked beyond his inevitable solo success. He is destined to bring New York Hip Hop back. Hes got the remedy. We have to be fly. Be who we are. Our swagger is different from any other place. We are dictators but we fell to being dictated to. Weve got to take it back to making music thats fun so people want to be from New York and hang out in New York.
Brasco songs are a potent mix of playful braggadocios and pounding rhythms that are instantly contagious to the listener. Such songs as Fresh and the Kwame produced banger Wow (in which Brasco describes just how astonished he is by all the gossip and buzz surrounding his success) exhibit his laid back flow and the natural charisma and witty lyrical style. Not to be outdone, the high energy buzz single B-Hop, Brasco shows the world exactly how a flashy Brooklyn rapper such as him started on the block with his grind and now is now living the good life. As Brasco will tell you, music makes you feel good. Music captivates you. Music is made of moments that you make people relive. About his highly anticipated debut album 18th Floor, Bras explain, Im grasping moments of my time and giving them to you to make you feel good in your time. Brascos mission might appear difficult, but his cool makes it seem all so simple. Hes here to take the throne as all kingz do. Consider yourself put on notice
-Brasco is currently featured on the soundtrack to EA Sports "Fight Night 3" video game.
