Growing up in one of the most impoverished neighborhoods in the United States, the Brownsville section of Brooklyn, Brasco, or Don as they called him became a product of his environment. Transforming a boy raised by the commandments into a man the streets clutched tightly, holding him closely to its bosom. His personal battle between right, wrong, and the pursuit of all-evil kept him in continuous problems including, the loss of friends, family, and relationships all to an overzealous grim reaper. The harsh lessons learned on the block are now not only lyrical fodder for his music, but served as the motivation, and inspiration of his own label Carnegee Kingz. After putting his street life behind him, Brasco focused his attention on MCing, and while he desired to be a solo artist he officially began his career recording with Hip Hop/R&B supergroup Brooklyn. The then newly formed group landed a major recording deal with Arista but unfortunately the deal was voided upon completion sue to the Arista/BMG mega merger. This may have crushed someone with less drive and determination but to Brasco it was a sign to push forward and pursue his solo dreams. In the dog-eat-dog world of entertainment talent and star power, although a necessary part of the equation, is simply not enough. Everyone needs an angle, and every good hustler knows the importance of strong connections. Early on Brasco made a bold move and chose to not go the now typical bar spitter/battle rapper mixtape route. He instead took full advantage of his established music industry ties and leveraged the respect that he had earned to land high profile producers such as Sanchez and 7 Aurelius on his demo. Brasco’s innovative approach to creating a buzz and gaining industry credibility landed this Brooklyn soldier smack dab in the middle of an entirely different battle – a bidding war. When the smoke cleared, he was in the enviable position of being able to pick and chose exactly which record label would best suit his bourgeoning empire Carnegee Kingz, and he wisely chose to sign with music industry titan Geffen/Interscope. Brasco inked one of the largest major record deals of that time, because they knew Brasco would be a definitive factor in the rejuvenation of East Coast Rap. Brasco’s eagerly anticipated debut will be a formal introduction to the world through his eyes. The album’s unique title “18th Floor” is a definitive nod to his life in the hood. The 18 floors of a New York City housing project in Brownsville where Brasco partook in the many components of a torn reality, this building, this life, so different from the world we all hope for, and in these 18 floors they all contribute to the story whether positive or negative. Brasco is the total package; his songs, a potent mix of playful braggadocio and pounding rhythms that are instantly contagious to the listener. Songs such as “Fresh” and “Give Me A Minute” in which Brasco paints a Van Gogh like picture, sharing the veracity of these 18 floors with such vigor and pragmatism dragging the listener into a whole new world, with elevator set as tour bus and Brasco, your charismatic tour-guide. Not to be outdone, on the high-energy buzz single “B-Hop” Brasco shows the world exactly how he started his grind on the block and through pursuing his dream, he explains his engagement with life’s finer things. With production from Kwame, Polow Da Don, Just Blaze, Stargate, and Akon... Brasco captains one supreme vessel and the self proclaimed perfectionist wouldn’t have it any other way. He’s here to take the throne as all kings do, he invites the world back to New York City, the home of Hip Hop music, a hotbed of talent for years and Brasco’s focus and drive revolves around bringing the borough of Brooklyn back to the height of its glory days when Jay and Big filled our ears. Brasco is an astute student of the past, holding a deep respect for rap’s earlier stars, a keen understanding of the present and the conglomerate hip-hop has become. Most importantly he knows his importance to the future, and his future starts now, as he invites you to these 18 Floors.
